The property was full of cockroaches.. My room was filthy with long hairs all over the floor. And a dead maggot dead in the plughole. Cockroaches alive and dead everywhere. The whole place was infested..the kitchen had cockroaches peeping out from under the microwave ..let alone any other surface. I'd of been cleaner sleeping on the street !!!!. Asked for a refund , which was refused as I had to quickly find another place to stay .. STAY CLEAR OF IT.....

Perfekt beliggenhet og hyggelig personale. Passer fint for korte opphold. Det eneste negative var at sengen jeg sov på var ganske hard og vond med fjærer som stakk inn i ryggen min.

Dorm was the size of a closet. No windows, no A/C. Lockers not secured to walls. Building under construction.

Dirty hostel with uninviting staff.

All the sheets and pillow cases were stained. The shower in the room didn’t work. The toilet didn’t flush. Staff weren’t friendly. The whole hostel smelt. Construction started at 8am everyday. Bar above hostel played music till 6am.

Everything alright except the guests itself. Noisy, drunk. Do not book here if you intend to get some sleep at night

Malpropre

L'une des moins propre que j'ai pu rester. Les draps ne sont pas changer ni laver entre les voyageurs... Il y avait même du sable dans mon lit. Les toilettes et douches communes manquent franchement d'intimité (trou dans les porte, porte pas très opaque ou bien un rideau qui ferme les toilettes). La cuisine commune est un nids pour plusieurs types de coquerelles que nous avons pu observer sur les tables, nourritures et murs. Les poubelles sont toujours pleines a craquer. Nous nous sommes faits voler des cartes de paiements ainsi que de l'argent dans notre casier fermés à clefs. Le personnel de l'hôtel font la fête a tous les soirs et nous invite à venir avec eux... Vicki est gentille et accueillante mais le reste du personnel ne l'ai pas vraiment. De plus, ils n'avaient pas notre réservation et nous a envoyer a un autre hôtel... pour que plus tard nous nous rendions compte que cet hôtel n'existait plus. Lorsque nous sommes revenu ils ont admis leur erreurs et nous a offert un dortoir pour nous seule. La chambre privé que nous étions sensé avoir réservé sentait extrêmement mauvais, impossible d'y rester... Ne prenez surtout pas la chambre 6! L'odeur est très forte et aucune des chambres n'ont de fenêtres, alors impossible d'aéré. Nous avons apprécié l'emplacement à proximité de la plage de tamarindo ainsi que des restos, boutiques et clubs populaires. L'air climatisée dans la chambre la nuit a également été agréable. Je ne recommande pas cet hostel.

Cheap hostel with bad bathrooms

Cheap and good location, all OK apart from bathrooms, they are disgusting and broken.cockroaches in the kitchen too

Awesome! very close to everything

The staff, the hostel itself were awesome, rooms very clean. The only thing to fix are the bathrooms because they aren't in proper conditions... Next time i get there i'll stay in that hostel!

worst place ever

this is the worst hotel stay in my life, this was a $90 a night price, where the room was in poor condition, there was no bathroom door, its smelled and was moist, there was no AC, they only give you the remote from 5 pm to 11 am, so the hottest hours of the day they dont allow AC. the actual bath area was with not finished cement, with parts of the cement finish missing and with wholes in it, the power outlets were falling apart, the place is called sunset hostel, where the is a big window to the sunset on the reception all the rooms are packed in a few square feet, with no windows, no ventilation, I've never felt so bad, I was completely ripped off by the price. I've paid less than that for hotels in great condition and properly taken care of, this hotel is not worth $10, is like sleeping in a cheap abandoned place, where the matters is all broken and thin, impossible to sleep in.

Sunset hostel was very accomodating and the staff was extremely welcoming and helpful! I would recommend to others. Met awesome people and had a great time here !

Not a great hostel...but it is close to the beach!

The Sunset Hostel is in a great location and is below a really good pizza place with a great patio and view. It's also right above a doctor's clinic...which is helpful in case one of the large cockroaches in the room bites you and it gets infected. Just kidding...the roaches at Sunset Hostel aren't that big and I'm sure they are friendly if you take the time to get to know them and their large family. During our stay we did get to know some of the staff and they were very nice. Of course, take this review with a grain of salt as I stayed there with my gf in a private room after staying at a fancy hotel...a word of advice, no matter how much you try to convince your gf that staying in a hostel will be fun and social and cool...it's not once you get there!! Having said that there ARE some cool Hostels in Tamarindo that might be fun if you were with buddies (but Sunset is not one of them).

Great Location and Prices

Firstly, remember this is a hotel we are reviewing. For an expensive town like Tamarindo, the prices offered were absolutely phenomenal. The location of this hostel was perfect, right in the center of town, and the staff were really great and helpful. However, the amenities I expected did not live up to my pre-arrival expectations. The wifi almost never worked for the entire duration of my trip, the telephone was out of service, and the credit card machine never worked, resulting in me needing to use a foreign ATM to withdraw cash with which to pay for my stay. There was also a $2 per day charge to obtain a towel. On a positive note, the rooms were cleaned daily, which kept the endless sand in the room in check, and the AC in the room was heavenly to help combat the Costa Rican heat. I would also recommend offering more than a thin sheet to cover with as the AC running through the night makes the room quite cold in the early hours of the day.

Best hostel ever

Vicky is amazing! Came for 2 days, stayed for a week! Great location. Close to beach, nightlife, shopping. There is a supermarket downstairs. Highly recommended
