Great place to stay without spending too much on a hotel. Clean and quiet with a spacious kitchen having everything available (including a fridge for the guests).
I arrived late on a solo road trip but was able to communicate with the staff to obtain the access code. Everything was great during my quick stay. Lots of communal space on the first floor to enjoy a snack or a meal and to just sit and socialize. So glad they have coffee available in the morning. I stayed in the dorm and was very pleased. Only thing was, and at no fault of the auberge, is that the town wakes up early and if your window faces the street, you will hear the early morning hustle and bustle. Overall, I’d gladly stay here again whether I were traveling solo again or with my family.
Fantastic staff person when I checked in!!!!
Room is clean, functional and quiet. It is extremely basic but for the price it’s great. The place is walking distance to the grocery store, restaurants and the boardwalk along the water. I appreciated that I could use the kitchen plus store ice packs for my cooler in a freezer.
It felt like home. We had everything we needed. Staff is very friendly. It is near restaurants and stores. We loved the café in the hostel and sitting on the porch!
The Magog Auberge de Jeunesse is one of the best hostels I have stayed in. It is located in a former church rectory with a well-furnished kitchen and spacious dining areas. The staff are first rate, speaking French and English. Special thanks to Anne-Sophie. Breakfast was bountiful. I highly recommend this facility designed to accommodate travelers of all ages at a reasonable rate.
What a treat! I laughed reading through the reviews before enthusiastically booking this terrific, centrally located hostel near the beach/bridge in Magog. Check in was easy, folks were friendly, kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to cook on site, and the rooms and hall bathrooms were tidy, adequately appointed, and super clean. Staff treat the place like home, and the rules, explicit in French and English, permit clear boundaries and good behavior. Also, the cafe on the main floor has excellent coffees and some food items, the sunny area for eating is warm and cosy with a Southeastern exposure and great light. The only disappointment was that I hoped to practice piano during my sojourn for the eclipse--and the upright looked like it was well cared for, but a note on the instrument and instructions from staff was that it was not permissible. That was the sole time I wished I had packed my guitar, but my sack was already 20 kg and I hiked all around the area finding the perfect spot to watch the heavenly planetary bodies do their dance. Thanks for having us--if you don't know what an auberge de Jeunesse is, and how it is different from a hotel......then maybe this kind of communitarian spot is not for you....but for the rest of us who travel lightly......c'est parfait!
During my recent stay at Hostel la jeunesse, I had mixed feelings about the experience.
**Location**: The hostel is situated in a convenient and accessible part of town, close to restaurants, and major attractions. This made exploring the city quite easy and enjoyable.
**Room**: Unfortunately, the room left much to be desired. The windows didn’t stay open properly, turning the room into a sauna, especially during warmer days. It was quite uncomfortable and made it hard to relax or get a good night's sleep. The beds, while clean, were extremely noisy, creaking with every movement. This was quite disruptive, particularly during the night.
**Amenities**: Neither the kitchen nor the room had paper towels or tissues, which was inconvenient.
**Cleanliness**: On a positive note, the room was clean, and the housekeeping staff seemed diligent in maintaining a good standard of hygiene. This was a relief and a definite plus amidst the other issues.
**Overall**: While the hostel has a great location and clean facilities, the uncomfortable room conditions and lack of basic amenities like paper towels and tissues detracted significantly from the experience. With some improvements, particularly in room maintenance and amenities, this hostel could offer a much more comfortable and enjoyable stay.
There was a more friendly response with the welcome email than the actual front desk person. Property was reasonably clean. I wish there was an option for separate twin beds (not a bunk bed). I liked the lounges and seating options.
This property lives up to the reviews. The location is excellent, walking distance to downtown shops, parks and walking/bike trails. Super clean and other clients were quiet and respectful. The only downside was the thin mattress on my bed. But except for that, I enjoyed my stay very much.
