This is our second time staying at Shimizu and we had, just as 10 years ago, a truly wonderful stay. The hosts invited us to try Japanese calligraphy with them after breakfast and they gave us many suggestions for activities in the neighborhood, like an epic flea market on temple grounds not far from the Ryokan. They adapted the breakfast to my vegetarian diet and it was really tasty. The room is spacious, comfortable and clean. I'm looking forward to spending time in Kyoto again soon and 10/10 will be staying at this amazing Ryokan
The property is a good Ryokan experience. The hosts were respectful and provide information on how to get through to the tourist spots. The place is well maintained and i would suggest to try the private bath which is conveniently located in the property for free.
The Con here would be the distance from the Kyoto station. Make sure to take the Central Exit after alighting from Shinkansen. There are a few easy to follow rules that you are required to follow in this property.

Service was excellent, and hosts were very thoughtful and could speak english. We received a nice souvenir from them when checking out. They had a list of recommended restaurants and itinerary in the room which was helpful. The room was comfortable and clean, and we enjoyed the private bath which was free to book.
