Loved the overall look of the property, with the tatami mats in the rooms, the tea set tables, and the paper sliding windows. The location is very accessible to places like Nijo castle, and Nishiki Market. Would love to stay here again on my next visit to Kyoto.
The room was great. It was clean and had what we needed. Remember, if traveling to Japan, bring your own top flat sheet, if you use it. They don't usually have at hotels in Japan. The area was nice. You need to go up a flight of stairs to get to reception, but they are friendly and will help with your luggage. They also provide amenities near reception, in case you forgot any toiletries.

We stayed at this hotel in Kyoto City and had a great experience! The location is very convenient—close to the subway and Nijo Castle, which made sightseeing easy. We booked the Japanese-style room that fits five people sleeping on futon beds, and it was comfortable and spacious. The hotel itself is a bit old, but it has everything you need, including a private bathroom, air conditioner, and air filter. The price is very affordable, perfect for travelers who don’t mind an older building.
The staff were nice and friendly. We arrived early around 10 a.m. and they kindly stored our luggage for us, then even placed it in our room before we checked in at 4 p.m.—a thoughtful touch! Overall, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a budget-friendly and comfortable stay in Kyoto.

The traditional Japanese family room was very spacious and fit our group of 6 nicely. It was cool to sleep on the traditional tatami mats! Our room and private bathroom was clean enough and was what we expected. The hotel did a good job of providing new towels and changing our sheets as well as cleaning our bathroom for us. The only thing I would say is that the hotel was a bit dated, nothing too exciting and had an older stale smell to it. Overall it was a good place to sleep and shower at the end of the day.
Hotel and room were fine. Unfortunately staff did not speak English but were good about translating instructions etc. My complaint is with the public bath. Mold growing in various places aggressively, cracked tiles. Needs to be completed scrubbed down, floor to ceiling and renovated even.
If you want an old old style, real Japanese experience with a lovely tatanmi room with easy access to central Kyoto, then it's great. We loved it. Very little English spoken (not a problem for us), and could be difficult to find if you don't arrive by taxi, but we really enjoyed our stay.
