Three Star Hotels in Kyoto

The former Imperial capital of Japan, Kyoto is one of the country’s most visited destinations thanks to its 2,000 temples and shrines, numerous museums and stunning scenery. In fact, 20 per cent of Japan’s National Treasures are located within the city. Kyoto is also the best place to see cherry blossoms, traditional townhouses (machiya) and geisha.

There are nearly 400 accommodation options in Kyoto, with over 190 of them catering to travellers on a mid-range budget. Some of these are ryokan, traditional Japanese inns, while others are standard three-star hotels in Kyoto with various room options. The Sakura Terrace The Gallery and Hotel MyStays Kyoto-Shijo are the two most popular Kyoto 3-star hotels, both of which are standard places to stay.

The Sakura Terrace The Gallery is in Minami-ku, just minutes away from Kyoto Station, Kyoto Tower and the Higashi Honganji Temple. This area is a working-class one, but it is home to several historic temples. Sakura Terrace The Gallery is modern both inside and out, with décor and a façade in grey and white. Natural stone and wood give the property an industrial look, though its lounge has a much cosier feel to it. There are also a state-of-the-art gym, a public bath and a great restaurant on site.

Hotel MyStays Kyoto-Shijo is a three-star Kyoto hotel that sits in the Shimogyō-ku area, which is the city’s biggest shopping district. The property is great for shopaholics and sightseers, with rooms being comfortable with appealing décor. It is a contemporary property with wooden floors, big windows and boxy furniture. There is a Japanese restaurant on site, as well as ice and vending machines for guests that want a quick snack.

Nearly all three-star hotels in Kyoto are in a neighbourhood in Central Kyoto, as this is where many of its most famous attractions are located, like Nijō Castle, Nijo Jinya, The Museum of Kyoto and the Tō-ji Temple. It is also home to the Imperial Park. Visitors who would rather stay outside of the city centre will find some fabulous options, like the Kyoto Uji Hanayashiki Ukifune-en that sits on the banks of the Uji River, and Otsu Prince Hotel, situated on the shores of Lake Biwa.
