"Our stay at Hotel Zagakukan was fantastic! The surrounding area is beautiful and close to the subway station and bus stops. Although the hotel is only rated a 2.5 star, this felt like a 5 star hotel with all the amenities provided and the quality of the room. The room was huge and super clean, and of course the best part was the private roof top onsen! Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone taking a break from the bustling big cities. "

"We stayed here for two nights in one of the small double pods (up the ladder). It was a bigger space than we expected and quite comfortable. The walls are understandably thin, so be prepared to hear people in the rooms around and below you. There are earplugs provided, which is helpful. The staff were all lovely and we really enjoyed our dinner around the fire! We also walked to a nearby onsen and found the location to be very convenient for exploring Hakone. Would definitely recommend! "

The well equipped public kitchen provides guests with the flexibility of preparing their own meals. Reminds me of dormitory experience back in University good old days. Room is large and comfortable. The only complaint is an additional charge for the outdoor onsen. One final note is guests of upper floors are required to carry their own luggage climbing up a steep...

"Very clean hostel and friendly staff. The baths were excellent. My wife and I were also very happy with our tatami rooms.The breakfast was good as well. especially the clam chowder. Would recommend to a friend. "

"We chose this place for it's convenient location from Gora station. I think we booked the condo side of the building instead of the hotel side, cause there appeared to mainly be families while we were there. Lots of facilities and amenities catered to children and families. We were lucky our room was on the same floor as the private bath, which we were able to utilize. Overall we enjoyed the experience, but it's better suited for families rather than a couple on their honeymoon."

"A lovely relaxing place to stay. The staff were lovely, helpful and prepared to explain about the onsen which was a very pleasant experience. Both our evening meal (vegan curry and beef with rice dish) and the breakfast were delicious. We felt our stay was very good value. The twin room was huge. The area of Gora was again relaxing with both Gora park and the Open air museum within walking distance. "

"A wonderful hotel and equally a wonderful staff. The location of the hotel is fantastic and is quite close to the famous attractions such as gora park or the Hakone open air museum. I would recommend anyone who is interested in a traditional Japanese house, a fun atmosphere and a nice onsen to consider this place."

"The staff were amazing and extremely helpful. Provided what we needed at request. We wish was that in them knowing we had a vehicle, that they were able to direct us to a nearby parking lot with affordable pricing. The signs are confusing at times. We ended up paying ¥3400 the first night for overnight parking and ¥6100 the second night in the nearby lots. Other than that, the room was clean except a little black mold near the AC unit. Deep. cleaning could be better. Happy with our 2 night stay...

"I need some coins for laundry but vending machines has out of changes and stuff won’t exchange coins."

"About a 20 minute walk from Mt. Fuji station, it's a bit of a walk with luggage. There are buses throughout the area running every 20-30 minutes. It's very much a suburb/rural area. The hotel has a great view of Fuji-san and great value with the onsen facilities in the hotel. Be sure to double check if you booked a smoking room or not."
