"Clean room, very close distances to grocery stores and walking distance to Lombard street"

"I enjoyed this place a lot. The retro look is fun, wooden card keys are neat, great staff and good views from the room. Mixed opinions on the room. It’s great by most standards I suppose but small, with a narrow hallway for hangers on one side and the sink the other etc… cool lighting… the sleeping area is quite small, bed takes up most of it. The lighting is eccentric and the switches tough to figure out / hit or miss. Looks cool though. The room was quiet mostly. There was a couple next door being frisky, but only for 30 mins or so. There was a party overhead. A text to hotel clerk quieted that right down, as they promptly sent security in response. Perhaps my biggest draw when booking was the rooftop bar and restaurant… you need reservations for that and we didn’t make them. We had dinner on the inside instead, the food was tasty but the menu small and the prices HIGH. Service was poor and difficult to engage. The atmosphere was pretentious. No bread to start the table off? Really? No bread, period, that’s just odd. As I said, food was good, quality good, but expect more for the price. Parking is a nightmare, obviously and quite visibly, but we Ubered in. It’s a fun, quirky, mostly friendly place with a retro vibe and a touch of luxury. Overall, I recommend it, I’d just go out for dinner. There is a lot in the neighborhood."

"Always a good experience at The Marker. Easy, prompt, and polite check in which always leads to an enjoyable stay. The lobby and grand staircase is always an experience and elevates my stay every time. Appreciate the VIP perks, sad a room upgrade wasnt available, the suites are always a nice treat! Rooms can be on the smaller side and don't always come with a view, but the unique decor and layout allievate any space issues. Close to Union Square, BART/MUNI, and various restaurants. "

"Across the street from union square, this hotel is close to many restaurants and quick dining spots. Definitely an ideal place to stay if you don’t have a car. Super close to Powell BART, you can walk there with your luggage. Short walk to Chinatown. Hotel was very clean and I always wipe down my room. There is a doorman/security for added safety. The pool is being remodeled. The staff always greeted me during my stay. I only stayed in the room to sleep and shower. I would stay here again. "

"Inside, the staff is very helpful and accommodating without being invasive. The rooms are peculiarly engineered, so make sure that you know what you are about to spend the night in. I think the room that I rented for two nights is made for single travelers or a close couple because I was in a sky cabin and the first thing that I notice when I walk into the room was just a stand-alone toilet. No doors or walls separating the toilet from the main cabin area, so make sure you are ultra comfortable with your cabin-mate in very close quarters. Then you climb a steep spiral ladder/staircase to the loft sleeping cubby, with a once-smart tv at the foot of the bed. If you are claustrophobic, I would look for a different floor plan but if you don’t mind, it’s a fun and futuristic theme. Everything about the hotel is great in that it’s very quick and easy check-in, resembling checking in at the airport or at a tech conference or something. The cabins are designed to resemble air travel cabins and are designed to feature minimalist and space-saving utility. If you’ve ever seen that show “tiny house hunters” and how everything is engineered to make the most out of tiny spaces, then you get the idea of what the cabins are like on the inside. The water and ice machine on each floor has the best crunchy ice you’ve ever had at a hotel. Check out 2nd floor Mission Cntrl!"

"I’m hoping someone reads this review because I wish I had read reviews before booking. First, this hotel is not affiliated with Embassy Suites. That’s what I assumed when I booked, but it’s actually a completely separate hotel called The Embassy. It’s located in the Tenderloin District, one of the rougher areas of San Francisco. The location was not clearly advertised when booking, and if you’re a solo female traveler, I would strongly recommend avoiding this area. They even lock the front entrance door, so at times you have to ring a bell to be let in. That alone should tell you how rough the neighborhood can be. To be fair, the towels and linens were clean and the staff was friendly, but the hotel itself is very dated and worn. The building has an old charm, but the moment we walked into our room it smelled like cigarette smoke, even though it’s supposed to be smoke-free. We had to notify management.There is no air conditioning, only an old furnace system that may or may not work. Luckily San Francisco weather is cool, so opening the window helped, but the street noise is loud, which may bother some guests. Also, the photos on Expedia are heavily filtered and misleading compared to the actual condition of the hotel.Amenities are minimal, only a small fridge, no real extras, and the TV isn’t Bluetooth enabled. If you just need a cheap place to sleep, it may be fine. But if you prefer cleaner, more modern accommodations or are traveling alone, I’d recommend staying elsewhere."

"Unsure of the cleanliness of the sheets. Headboard and rug had stains. Dresser/ nightstands were obviously unwiped as there were water stains from previous patrons. Walls were paper thin and could hear people’s conversations from the next room. Noisy nextdoor patrons persisted all night. Air conditioner did not work. Blow dryer did not work. There was hair in the refrigerator. Asked to change sheets they did not. If given the choice to come back I would not. "
