"was a great experience. The resort is set up for you not to leave but any, even if you do, they do have options readily available for you to participate in excursions to a variety of different touring options.. The food was excellent at the restaurant we ate at, and the buffets were decent as well."
"The staff was really nice, they would check up on you and were really friendly. We went mid June and it was a really bad seaweed season, but there were workers working daily cleaning up the seaweed to make the beach accessible. The rooms were clean and pool towels were exchanged nightly. The property itself was a lot smaller than expected, there was one walkway connecting all the buildings to the pool and beach. Food wise there was one buffet serving breakfast and lunch, and for dinner you had to make reservations (Mexican, Italian, Asian, or a Steakhouse). And a snack bar for lunch next to the members only seafood restaurant. There weren’t any tennis/ pickle ball courts but they had a ping pong table, and a gym/ spa which comes at an additional cost. The membership people were pretty ruthless in trying to get you to sign up so be aware incase you are not interested to begin with. They take you to a breakfast/ lunch and take up half the day trying to convince you to sign up even if you are adamant from the start. But unfortunately that is their job and not different than other resorts. The activities people were really energetic and had plenty of games / activities throughout the day. Overall great experience, but I wouldn’t say its exceptionally better than other resorts."
"First of all the hotel is an hour away from the airport. I did pay for the private transportation and it was well worth it. The resort itself is truly beautiful. On the first, night my mini fridge wouldnt cool and the room ac was not working, I called down and someone came right up to check but they said it would kick on and it never did. They did move me to another room the next day but then I saw someone a couple of days later complaining about the AC in the original room.
On the first night maintenance knocked while bulbs on hand then said never mind wrong room but they also knocked on my kids door and when they didnt open they just walked right in then excused themselves when they saw them in there. I thought that was weird but it did not happen again so I let it go.
The beach was a BIG let down, there was just seaweed? idk, all around the edge to get in you had to walk over it and it smelled very bad and was full of flies. The pool is big with a swim up bar and plenty of seats and hammocks for everyone. The food was ok, the only specialty restaurant that impressed us was Tokyo. The buffet food was actually always on point, in all buffets except the Captain Morgan one. Overall, i would recommend it, its a good resort and staff is friendly"
"I like the food was good and all restaurants , pool and amenities were close the only think that we didn’t like was the condition of the room floor and tab looks like was no full clean."
Barceló Maya Riviera - Adults Only - All Inclusive
10/10 Excellent
"We had an excellent stay here. The room was great, comfortable bed and kept immaculately clean by the staff. Pools were large and spacious, clean as well. The restaurants were wonderful - highly recommend the hibachi and the mexican restaurant, but should note that usually only 1 or 2 is open each night, at least during the season we were there. The buffet was just fine, pretty standard for an all inclusive in my opinion. Overall, would happily stay here again any time.
Should also note that staying here gets you access to all the other Barcelo resorts on property - we did not take big advantage of this, but if I went back I would try to further explore. You can walk to most of them but there is also a bus that comes by every 15 minutes."
"Chez Waffle has a pretty back lounge area with view of the water and fish swimming into the inlet. The condition of the rooms is a bit dated. The prices of food on the high side. It is extremely quiet in this gated community. If you want lots to do, you are isolated. I did diviving and day trips every day, so spend little time at the hotel (only evenings). The local busses that run between Playa an d Tulum are excellent. Very cheap! Overall, enjoyed my stay and would do this again. I recommend it."
