"The hospitality (service and meals) at Shiganoyu Hotel were amazing. While we did not speak Japanese and the staff did not speak English, they used a translation tool for conversation and didn't let that be a barrier. It was so comfortable for our family of 5 - very homey and welcoming. The tea and treat upon check-in was a nice surprise and delicious. The onsen was a relaxing bonus! "Location is good, opposite is the ski resort, which has good snow. Overall room was well maintained, public Onsen was nice too. However we came during early ski season, there is barely any restaurants opens. Hotel cafe food is a bit expensive, and not much choice (mainly western). If plan to stay may order half board instead, or tell hotel staff to reserve dinner before 10am"

"We were here for a couple of days and had a wonderful stay! The place is kept clean, and it sits right by the ski hill. Nothing beats a soak in the hot public bath after a day of skiing. Also loved the breakfast and dinner! The gem though was the staff, who were incredibly friendly and went out of the way to help us. "

"The bed was very hard with only one pillow each the linen was very thin and hotel itself needs renovating if it wants to attract more international guests. The staff were freindly and helpful. "I really enjoyed my stay, however getting there was challenging, and I couldn't find the email to ask questions on their website. I ultimately took a risk and was able to hop on a bus from Karuizawa, but online it mentions no reservations for buses, and I could not find that there even was one to the resort. If their email had been listed (and perhaps it is not due to an internet issue through the US), I'd have had less stress getting there. Otherwise, I only recommend others research more before going here so they know the customs more - tattoos are not allowed, and I had to book the private onsen."

"The room was really spacious with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Breakfast was included but dinner we ate out as the hotel is large and they can't accommodate everybody. This was not a problem as there were so many restaurants in town. You do need to time the shuttle bus well though. Overall, a brilliant place to visit and really worth the money."
