Exceptional service and facility.
A bit outside of Hakone but a great location for folks who need to stay away from the city and people. The small town/ Sengokuhara is also great - a ton of museums and good restaurants. All walking distance.
A beautiful stay. The private onsens were our main draw and they did not disappoint. The room itself is huge with a large balcony. The decor is so calming. The shower is lovely. The staff and all the meals were so interesting with wonderful presentation. We loved our stay.
The service is exceptional. All employees are so attentive and friendly. The facilities are spot less. The room is very spacious, and private onsen in the room was very nice.
This hotel is even more beautiful in person. No pictures could ever do justice to it. The staff are so kind, timely, professional and thoughtful. The dining experience was outstanding.
I had just broken my leg and they assisted me with a wheelchair, extra pillows, ice and even helped me call the hospital because I don't speak Japanese.
Overall an oustanding experience and I recommend this ryokan to anyone staying in the area!
It was an amazing stay at the Hoshino Resorts KAI Sengokuhara. If seclusion and privacy are what you are looking for, this is the place. The private outdoor onsen was incredible and so was the rest of the room. We had a nine-course pre-set dinner, which was delicious. If you are allergic to seafood, you should let them know ahead of time. The Pirate Ship cruise of Lake Ashi is only minutes away by public bus. There are a lot of restaurants and shops in that area. There was a bit of miscommunication during our checkA-our that delayed us for several minutes. This would normally be okay, but we checked out very early to catch a train and we’re almost late.
This was the first time for my husband and I staying at a top notch Hoshino resort!
The experience of approaching and entering the building is a memorable experience by itself!
When we arrived by a taxi at the resort on Nov 14, we are greeted by the staff outside by the gate, and she helps me with my carry-on and lead us to the reception area upstairs with an impressive escalator.
The whole space inside the common areas, our assigned room and the garden outside are meticulously fantastic. As an architect myself, I could say the whole place is an amazing architectural experience which heightened your senses!
The staff is very courteous and the service is impeccable, which reflects the quality of such a resort.
It is without a doubt the best experience for such a highly rated resort!
The quietness of the place when experiencing the whole resort from the moment we arrived to incredible dinner and breakfast time, until we checked out, I believe it is due to the well planned and organized space and highest level of staff. From the moment you enter the reception area and waiting for our room to be ready, it is so quiet and peaceful.
Our apologies to only give you a 4 star, only to get your attention. The one star is taken off due to the fact that while everything else in our room is impeccably clean, the shower glass doors however was probably unintentionally forgotten to get cleaned, as those glass doors still showed water marks from previous use. Otsukaresamadeshita.
Beautiful hotel and surrounding areas. Slightly out of the way though so to explore the area I would recommend renting a car because taxis can become booked out.
This hotel is exceptional. We absolutely loved staying here and wish we were here longer. The property and staff were amazing. Food amazing. Amenities amazing.
Transportation is convenient to the bus lines which is easy within Hakone itself. We opted for taxi from Odawara station to the hotel. Saved us soooo much energy and chaos trying to get on and off the bus with luggage.
I want to head back here again with our family. So so so so so amazing
We stayed in KAI Kawaji before and had excellent experience. But this time is a disappointment. The staffs were great but dining is underwhelming and disappointing. We stayed 3 nights and each day is getting worse and worse. We booked a massage and didn't show up until I called. Also, we caught a waiter drank from the glass the guest left which was disgusting.
Sharing our experience in the hope others will find the information useful. We spent two nights here. Three key observations.
SERVICE
Bluntly the service was nowhere near good enough. Throughout the stay. A number of staff were clearly trying their best but it felt like we were being looked after by trainees. Three examples: on arrival we waited for 25 minutes in reception, with no one else waiting, no check outs or other check ins, with almost zero information or updates. The only contact with the sole member of staff was when she came over to us and said 'you have booked dinner for 7.30, it will be very busy, we advise you to re-book at 5.30pm'. We said no thanks, not least as it didn't suit us but also as we'd booked 7.30 many weeks before (as it turned out it was almost eerily quiet at 7.30 ... one wonders whether they were trying to get all guests seated in that single early sitting). She then returned 10 minutes later to ask if we were sure whether we wanted fresh towels every day (bear in mind we hadn't even checked in at this point). We asked to book a cab to the local (Odawara) station on departure. We were told it was 'very hard'. We were subsequently told it was taken care of, but then - over the following 6 hours, including twice at dinner that evening by two different hotel employees - we were asked, 'do you need a cab, today? tomorrow?'. These are the simple things, the small things that should be automatically removed from guests' list of worries. But they wer
