Let me reiterate by saying it’s really unfortunate that I can’t give this establishment a 5 star review all around because the staff, service, food, message treatments, view, general etiquette were all 5 star caliber, especially the staff.
However, room cleanliness is a big deal and our room was not only dated, it was dirty and just not taken care of, which is shocking in Japan where everyone takes so much pride in making sure everything is clean and set up. Splatters on walls, dusty corners and air conditioning vents, mold smell, mold in the shower and around doors/windows, dirty uncleaned private onsen on our balcony, I can go on…I know it was a hot time and there was moisture in the air but when we complained, they came in and bleached the shower walls and then everything smelled like bleach. Major upgrades needed and a better cleaning staff.
On the bright side, Breakfasts and dinners were Michelin star caliber, staff was on top of it and extremely attentive but for $650/night, I was hoping for a clean nice room with a clean onsen pool to actually want to go into.
