Among the highlights is the Jin Mao TowerOpens in a new window, which is 1,380 feet (420 metres) tall. Ascend to the Skywalk observation deck on the 88th floor for spectacular vistas of Shanghai and of the hotel lobby below your feet. In addition to skyscrapers, this district is known for scenic waterside trails. Follow the Riverside PromenadeOpens in a new window of paved sidewalks and monuments. Inspect the Shanghai People’s Heroes Monument in Huangpu Park. The structure pays tribute to revolutionary martyrs and artistically depicts three tall rifles.

Cross the enormous Nanpu Bridge its western end culminates in a layered swirl. On the opposite side of the river is pleasant Nanpu Square Park. Get a sense of the local culture and history at the Shanghai Feng Tianxing Stone Museum and the Waitan History Museum. Visit the Wu Changshuo Memorial Hall for a closer look at the works of its namesake 19th-century painter and calligrapher.

Note that the name of the neighbourhood is Chinese for Lu’s Mouth, in reference to politician and scholar Lu Shen from the Ming Dynasty.

The zone juts out into a bend in the Huangpu River in the Pudong New District of central Shanghai. Take a water taxi to travel up and down the river or get to this neighbourhood via the city’s metro system. Shanghai Pudong International Airport is 25 miles (40 kilometres) east.
