On the east coast of the Bay of Bangkok is a fishing town with picturesque beaches, tropical islands, breathtaking gardens and myriad wildlife.

Sattahip is a mix of popular tourist destination, fishing town and large naval base on Thailand’s eastern coastline and overlooking the Bay of Bangkok. Come for unspoiled beaches, fascinating ocean life, idyllic islands and magnificent gardens.

A major highlight of the town is the beaches peppered along an attractive coastline of secluded coves and sweeping bays. Among these are Bang Saray Beach and Ban Amphur Beach. These boast crystal-clear water and soft golden sand backed by swaying palm trees and a beach road lined with bars, restaurants and market stalls. Visit Sai Kaew Beach, a pristine beach maintained by the Thai Royal Navy. Try watersports, such as kayaking, Jet Skiing and water-sled rides, at popular Nang Ram Beach.

Stroll around the town centre streets to get a glimpse into the town’s naval traditions. Step aboard the HTMS Chakri Naruebet, Thailand’s flagship naval vessel. See nesting turtles at the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre. Enjoy a moment of tranquility at Wat Luangpho Buddhist temple.

Discover stunning natural beauty on the semi-deserted islands situated in Sattahip Bay. Take a daytrip to Ko Khram Yai, famous for its rugged cliffs and unspoiled beaches. Join a boat trip around Ko Tae Mo and Ko Nang Ram. Spot mischievous troops of monkeys on Monkey Island. Marvel at the brightly colored marine life and coral reef on snorkeling and diving trips to Samae San Island.

Find more attractions within a 30-minute drive from Sattahip’s town centre. Go game fishing at Chong Samae San Village. Admire the golden Buddha image and scenic countryside at Buddha Mountain. Explore themed gardens, ride atop an elephant and watch Thai cultural performances at Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden. Step inside typical Thai dwellings and attend folk dancing displays at the Thai Thani Arts and Culture Village.

Sattahip is just a 40-minute drive from Pattaya and about a 2-hour drive from Bangkok. Get around using affordable taxis and songthaews (shared taxis). Alternatively, rent a car or scooter. With a consistently mild climate and quiet beaches, Sattahip presents a serener alternative to Pattaya’s round-the-clock entertainment and nightlife.
