This lake was created after a 7.5 magnitude earthquake in 1959 caused a large landslide which killed 28 people. The full depth of the lake is 120 feet but the trees within the edges provide an eerie reminder of how volatile this area can be. There are several pullouts along the lake that give info as well as a visitor center at the West end of the lake. If your travels take you past here, I recommend a quick stop to learn about this recent history. #blue

On August 17, 1959, a 7.5 earthquake occurred in southern Montana, killing 28 people and creating a lake. It is one of the more creepy places that I've been to. There are tons of bleached snags poking out of the water which in the evening become a popular nesting place for ravens. This photo was taken just after sunrise. #waterlust
