"Uotoshi is remarkable value for money and is also unique. The owner is very welcoming with great English. The Ryokan is older and somewhat rundown but it is also a community hub that has sing along classes for local kids (Rudolph the red nose reindeer in Japanese is awesome) and have fun with English nights. "Location is good, opposite is the ski resort, which has good snow. Overall room was well maintained, public Onsen was nice too. However we came during early ski season, there is barely any restaurants opens. Hotel cafe food is a bit expensive, and not much choice (mainly western). "Clean room. Room size was good. Friendly staff. Free to borrow umbrellas. Free coffee in lobby. We did not eat breakfast there. Dinner was good. We went in November, hotel didn't seem very busy. The town seems quiet. Very close to train station. We went to the snow monkey park and Obuse. "
