"Nice hotel in a run down area. Banyan drive used to be nice. There are at least two abandoned hotels next door. There are A LOT of homeless in Hilo now (just like Oahu where I live). The hotel was renovated but still had some minor cosmetic issues- curtains, etc. Beautiful view, could see the cruise ships. We absolutely loved the new lounge area. Nice drink and pupu selections. "This was our first stay here and we were very pleased with our decision and the service provided. We needed a basic, clean room for primarily sleeping as we were out and about during the day. "My main concern was the ubiquitous presence of cameras in the common areas of the house. We were warned about that peculiarity when we checked in. Nonetheless, it felt very uncomfortable to be walking around knowing you were recorded on a continuous basis. Otherwise, the property was pleasant, in very good shape and clean.
