"We were staying on a boat in Newport and decided on the last day of our trip that we would like to sleep in a regular bed on a piece of land. And last minute we chose the only available room which was the one we got and it was great. "Bathroom was dirty. Hallway smelled of smoke. Bed spread had black marks, red nail polish on it. The heating unit was so filthy you couldn’t turn it in. Guests were slamming doors at all hours."

"The hotel just reopened after a renovation. We had problems with the TV, had to change rooms, the water/ice stations were not operational, the upper deck bar area was not opened and our room was not entirely cleaned two nights. The staff needs to sharpen up. The property and location are perfect, they just need to get things in order."

"The staff were so pleasant to talk to and since my wife and I were not able to climb stairs, we were upgraded to a first floor room. The breakfast served every day was so delicious and ready when we were. Everything we needed was taken care of by wonderful people. Also all the attractions are within walking distance since the hotel is located downtown. I highly recommend the Melville House and we will be staying there again."

"I liked that it was basically a one bedroom apt. Clean, super convenient to everything. Didn’t live that window in bedroom didn’t open. Light over sink flickered consistently- so we turned it off. It was a little noisy due to location but that wa ok- I bring ear plugs. Staff was great and view from observation deck of sunset amazing !"

"So…the site itself is in a gorgeous location so if the weather is good you will want to sit outside. The property is an older building and we expected and were fine with that. They seem to want to be a venue space more than a hotel- we knew there might be an event but the thumping music from the DJ travels. There was zero food or beverage available until breakfast- to the point where you cannot even get a soda. The A/C is controlled at the front desk and we’re assuming it was down low because of the event but it was so very cold in our room and there were no extra blankets. I slept in my coat and was miserable. Desk staff were just ok but the one lady who came to the room to fix the cable was very nice. Would not book again."
