There are two types of floats in The Gion Matsuri Parade, Yama and Hoko. There are 23 Yama and 10 Hoko. The Hoko floats can be up to 25 meters tall and weigh up to 12 tons.

"We chose this hotel for 2 main reasons: 1) it’s close to one of the two main subway lines in Kyoto, and 2) it has a washing machine in the room. The location was so easy to navigate, either by bus or subway, and the washing machine was a welcome sight on day 6 of our 12-day trip to Japan. The instructions for the machine were easy to understand. The room was fairly spacious, and the beds were comfortable. The lobby is currently undergoing renovation, but we never heard any construction noise. It looks as though the guest floors have been recently renovated. The common areas and hallways on our floor were spotless, and the carpet still had the new smell. The lobby also has a wonderful coffee machine that makes specialty drinks, and they provide free sake in the afternoon/evening. We did not opt for the breakfast buffet, so I cannot speak to the food, but there is a 7-11 less than 2 minutes away, and we bought breakfast items and bottled water there each night for the following day. There is a fridge in the room. And if you are a runner, this hotel is .75mi from the Kyoto Gyoen (Imperial Park) and .85mi from the Kamo River running path. I recommend both, although the gravel in the Gyoen makes for a challenging run. "
