"The room was very clean, however the property was in need of fresh paint in stairwell and outside in various areas. The staff was amazing."

"Overall there was a friendly and good feel to the property in the checkin and lobby area. When we got to our room thiugh it was a different story! There was wall paper peeling off of the walls in certain areas. The decor was very outdated and artwork seemed like they were gathered from the 1980’s. The carpet felt damp to the touch on bare feet. Lanai chairs were coming apart. Door to the room had at least a 1-inch gap on the floor. Lots of noise coming in from the hallway throughout the night....

"I understand this was an eco lodge. However, there is no air and little cross breeze. Our bed was broken, there were not enough towels (only 3 for 5 people), we were encouraged to shower by turning the water off while we used soap, the pots and pans were so dirty that some could not be cleaned. The worst was that the staff was unprofessional. They did not communicate effectively, they were dismissive about simple requests (like "how to check in") and once we did check in we NEVER heard from...

"Nice old plantation style house with a beautiful yard and view of Hilo. Staff was nice and helpful, even tho I arrived a day and a half late. Very peaceful place to stay, with birds chirping in the morning and coqui frogs croaking at night."

"We checked in on July 26, 2026, originally for 3 nights but left after 2, for units 7 & 9. - We were not a fan of the coqui frogs. If you like to be serenaded from sunset to early hours of the morning this is your place. Apparently these frogs like to serenade for many hours, and we later found out (via local TV news) they are considered a nuisance and should be reported to authorities. - In unit 9, there appeared to be dried up contact lens on the night stand = GROSS - the shower gels that...

"We liked the room and liked the location - just steps to the Farmer's Market. This is more of a note to Expedia than to the Hilo Downtown Inn. This is the second place we have rented through Expedia that didn't tell us we'd need to negotiate stairs. My wife has trouble navigating stairs. I think the property and Expedia have an ethical and perhaps legal obligation to inform potential renters about the stairs."
