"Avoid the Mandarin Oriental Pudong at all costs. This was honestly one of the worst luxury hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The room was dirty, multiple things were broken, and the overall cleanliness standards were completely unacceptable for a hotel that claims to be five-star luxury. What made the experience even worse was the attitude of the staff. Whenever I raised complaints during my stay, nobody seemed to care. Front desk staff ignored concerns, the service staff were rude, and management showed absolutely no urgency in fixing anything. I made these complaints while I was physically staying in the hotel, yet nothing meaningful was done at the time. Now, only after I’ve left China, they suddenly want to respond by offering me an “upgrade” if I fly all the way back to China and stay with them again. So their solution is for me to spend thousands of pounds on flights and another hotel stay just so they can put me back into the same hotel that ruined my experience in the first place. Offering an airport transfer and an upgraded room does not fix terrible customer service and unacceptable standards. The management was pathetic, the handling of complaints was pathetic, and the cleaning standards were pathetic. I’ve stayed in top luxury hotels around the world, and this is easily the worst Mandarin Oriental experience I’ve ever had. Do not waste your money staying here."

"First, the good stuff. Excellent staff, most helpful with a late arrival due to a stranded connecting flight, and with a late checkout. Good food and drinks, and service to go with it. The not so good... The WiFi was hopeless. Virtually unable to connect to a speedy and/or reliable signal. Our own phone data was also hard use inside the hotel - but we would get multiple notifications as soon as we stepped outside. Bathroom... I get 'mood lighting' in the lounge room but why have it in the bathroom? I craved a bright light to shave, my wife the same for makeup etc. Also, having a sliding door on the toilet was a great idea but with no handle on the inside, it's difficult to open, especially in the middle of the night, particularly with jet lag and NO BRIGHT LIGHTS. We liked the hotel, a lot of the big things worked great, it's the silly little stuff that bothered us. We'd love to come back and stay again"

"The hotel's location was awesome, price was fair and the hotel was updated with very nice gym room and hot tub/sauna separately for men and women. The rooms are good size and beds are comfortable. However, the AC at the room we stayed at was not the best (we didn't change room because we thought it would cool down the temperature over time, but it did not), it couldn't keep the room as cold as we like. The cleaning service/crew was excellent. We would probably stay at China hotel again but will make sure to ask for a different room if the AC isn't working as well as we would like."

"Absolutely fantastic one night stay only 10 minutes walk to the Airport checkin . The one bedroom suite was amazingly comfortable with all the mod cons and the staff were really helpful going out of their way to make sure we knew how to get to the checkin on time."
