Independent hotels in Nimman

The history of Chiang Mai dates back centuries, but one of the most popular attractions in Thailand's second biggest cities started with a single bar during the mid-2000s. Just over a decade later, Nimmanhaemin Road, otherwise known as Nimman, has grown into the trendiest and most modern section of this ancient city. Nimmanhaemin Road is located where Highway 11 ends west of Chiang Mai's Old Town five kilometres north of Chiang Mai International Airport. It takes just 10 minutes to travel between Nimmanhaemin Road and Tha Pae Gate by songthaew (local bus), tuk-tuk, or automobile.

Nimman's main attractions are its shops, bars, restaurants, and coffee shops. However, there are also quite a few temples, museums, and other historic landmarks within striking distance of busy Nimmanhaemin Road. The Chiang Mai University campus provides a particularly relaxing atmosphere thanks to its Ang Kaew Reservoir and neighbouring Huay Kaew Arboretum. Cycling tours of Chiang Mai University are especially popular.

Another attraction near Nimman is Chiang Mai Zoo, where all of the over 400 different animal species are housed in spacious and shady enclosures near the cool Doi Suthep mountain range foothills. Wat Suan Dok and Wat Umong are the two closest temples to Nimman. All of Thailand's 422 mosquito species are safely displayed behind a glass case at the Museum of World Insects and Natural Wonders.

Nimman boasts a large percentage of Chiang Mai's trendiest, highest rated, and most tourist friendly places to eat and drink. Many Nimman restaurants combine traditional Thai cuisine with other types of dishes such as Japanese, Chinese, or Italian. There is also no shortage of the cafés which serve coffee made from locally grown beans and have earned Nimman its Coffee Street nickname.

There is a huge selection of interesting shops not only on the main Nimmanhaemin Road, but also on several of the side streets near Chiang Mai's trendiest shopping district. Handmade figurines, funky lighting, and antique furniture are just a few of the things for sale at Nimman's shops. Chiang Mai University's Kad Na Mor student night market specialises in food stalls, makeup, and clothing. Shoppers can also explore Nimman Promenade's small independent shops, the large Maya Lifestyle Shopping Centre, or one of Nimman's smaller specialised lifestyle malls.

Most Nimman banks and ATMs are located on the section of Nimmanhaemin Road between Nimmanhaemin Road Lane 2 and Nimmanhaemin Road Lane 12. Currency exchange booths can be found at K Bank, Krung Thai Bank and UOB Exchange Booth.
