Lovely modern hotel in good location in Ueno - near the action, but in a slightly quieter area. We picked Ueno for a 1-night stay after returning from skiing up north, as we felt being near the train to Narita Airport would be beneficial. While this hotel is near the train station, it is on the side furthest away from the Airport line, which meant for quite a long walk while dragging a ski bag. If you are travelling lighter than us though, it is worth the walk. Room was large by Tokyo standards and was well equipped (however only tea available, no coffee in the room). Excellent shower. Lovely smelling body wash. Very comfortable bed (decently firm). The welcome drink from a machine was a bit strange - it might of been nicer to be served a drink downstairs in the bar/restaurant instead, but still a comfortable seating area near the welcome drink location. Overall a brief but very pleasant stay.

The check in was so smooth and the staff was professional and polite. The room itself was perfect and was clean and well taken care of . Kuramae Shrine is surrounded by high-rise apartments but still makes a statement, especially this time of year with the gorgeous sakura in full bloom. The locals call these cherry blossoms "Kuramae Sakura," although I'm pretty sure they are a type of yama-zakura. I like that they are so fond of these blossoms that they named it :) Location: Kuramae Station on the Toei Oedo Line. For a Tokyoite, it's just a short walk from Asakusa or Ueno.
