"The room had a cockroach"

"While the staff were all friendly, warm and helpful, I think the property does not reflect as advertised - in particular the rooms. We booked the peaceful double room and while clean, they were extremely run down. Washrooms were tiny and had a smell to them. Fortunately, we were able to cancel part of our stay."

"This is an older hotel, no a/c or elevator, still uses keys, looks beat down from the hallway. Nice clean pool and direct access to some lava rock tide pools. TBH the view of the bay and the sound of the waves made it worth it- but I’d sleep in my car for that sound! Microwave and fridge came in handy. A low cost option for Hilo."

"This is a unique property in a cute rural setting. I could see how it’s not for everyone and it’s most definitely non-traditional. However, the setting is beautiful and the accommodations are adorable. Bed was comfortable, staff were pleasant; although for the most part we were on our own for check in, etc. No issues there, clear communication with directions and door codes were provided. There are indeed a number of ‘rules’ but I saw them more as a guide for how to use this special property...
