Hako Riero was wonderful. It was clean, stylish and very high tech. It had a 7 eleven in walking distance and very close to the Hakkne-Yumoto train station. I would absolutely stay here again.
That’s a more authentic review if the food wasn’t actually a highlight for your family:
We stayed at Shiunso Ryokan as a family with two young children and overall had a pleasant experience.
The ryokan is definitely an older property and shows its age in some areas, but it has a traditional atmosphere that many travelers may appreciate. The staff were welcoming, and the stay gave us an opportunity to experience a classic Japanese ryokan.
One of the biggest advantages of this location is its convenience. It is within walking distance of Tonosawa Station, although the route involves a short uphill walk. We found it to be a good base for exploring Hakone and completing the Hakone Loop using public transportation.
Our children especially enjoyed sleeping on futons in the tatami room and exploring the ryokan grounds. The stay itself felt unique and memorable for them.
The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were an interesting cultural experience, but the food was not our family’s favorite part of the stay. That said, we appreciated the opportunity to try traditional Japanese ryokan cuisine.
Overall, Shiunso is a solid choice for travelers looking for a traditional Hakone ryokan with convenient access to transportation. While the facilities are somewhat dated, the location, atmosphere, and family-friendly experience made for an enjoyable stay.
We really appreciated all the clear, simple instructions for everything from the aircon, to the washer and dryer. It made it so simple. Area was quiet and spacious. Loved the heated floor. Great place to retreat after a long day sightseeing.
Wonderful Stay in Hakone!
The property is in a super convenient location, just a short walk to Hakone Yumoto shopping street, with two convenience stores nearby. There’s also a parking space available. The property itself is new, clean, and well-organized, with a cozy modern Japanese design that makes you feel instantly relaxed. Facilities are excellent, including a Dyson hairdryer and a Bruno hot pot cooker. If you’d like to have a BBQ, just let the host know in advance. The host is very friendly and responsive, any questions were answered quickly.
I’ll definitely stay at the property again next time I visit Hakone. Highly recommended!
