"We love the location as it makes a good walk into Whitby or Sandsend.
The room was precisely as advertised and very cosy and comfortable.
Ample parking on site.
Your hosts are very welcoming and nothing seems to be too much trouble.
We will be back whenever accommodation is needed in the area. "

"I have to say the royal is ( was ) a grand hotel,it is in a prime location, has a lot of style, it's showing its age in a lot of places . They're in the midst of trying to make the bedrooms more attractive.
There is scaffolding on one side of the hotel not sure what they're doing but there is plenty to do in sure.
We booked one of the standard rooms because it had a seaview,it was basic but ok for one night.
The food in the restaurant was very nice and there's an extensive choice in the bar, excellent service throughout.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would choose the royal again but definitely one of the refurbished rooms."
Crown Spa Hotel Scarborough by Compass Hospitality
8/10 Good
"Our room was spacious and nice, some holes in wall and deco could have done with some TLC. Amazing sea view and could see Scarborough harbour, room was clean, nice bathroom, fan in room. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was lovely."
"The hotel was beautiful, and the staff were top class. The area was superb and only a short stroll to the 'Heartbeat' tv setting.
Everything about the hotel was excellent, with the exception of the restaurant.
We used the restaurant on the Sunday evening and ordered the sirloin steak meal for myself and my wife.
The bill was £64 for what was the worst garbage I have ever tasted.
The steak was similar to a sirloin steak that one can purchase in sainsbury for around a fiver.
We requested our steaks to be 'well done', yet the bottom of my plate was very bloody. It was almost impossible to cut or chew the steak, and I am pretty certain a good vet could have brought it back to life.
The 'chips' were the size of roast potatoes and were mostly uncooked.
The pepper sauce tasted like it had come out of a packet, and the onion rings were almost the same circumference as the plate.
This meal was excessively overpriced, and to be honest, even my dog would have probably refused to eat it.
I would recommend the hotel to anybody, it was fantastic, but your head chef is as much a head chef as I am a Hollywood movie star."
"Stayed in room 117 !!
Absolutely stunning room with massive balcony … totally fabulous ! Highly recommend….
Reception and bar staff super helpful and friendly …, fabulous stay"
"Staff were so polite, helpful and friendly. The room was a great size for two people, it was clean and well maintained. Everything you need for a 2 night stay. Comfortable, good size bed and adequate storage.
Location is on a main road but is very quiet considering and has the bonus of buses running regularly, so no need for the car. We had breakfast which had mainy options and money off if you prebook. Real lovely and very affordable."
"Friendly, helpful & pleasant staff. Room was small but well equipped but fine for a one night stay. Seems overpriced considering what else is available in the area. "
If you're interested in something a little quirkier than your standard hotel, a stay at a bed and breakfast might be the perfect option for your trip.
