Smile Hotel Sugamo was the perfect stay for me. It had a comfortable single room, friendly and helpful staff, with convenience stores and a train station nearby. It was easy to travel about Tokyo and even Sugamo had a few nice spots to offer despite its quieter nature. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

5 mins walk to Sugamo Station, just 2 Stations away from Ikebukuro, next to 24hr Convenience store, a large supermarket just nearby Definitely will consider to stay again!

Extremely close to the Sugamo JR station, which is why I picked this location. It’s an older business hotel but functional everything is fine. It was not the most comfortable bed but aside from that, pretty standard fare, including onsite coin laundry.

Trip to Tokyo

This was a very nice, compact hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are small but well maintained. We loved the neighborhood with so many tiny restaurants.

The staff were lovely and friendly! Room was clean and tidy. Very close to sugamo station and easy to find! Family mart next door is open 24/7 which is great! Short walk to jizodori shopping district as well as rikugien garden also! Would stay again when back in Tokyo!

Smile Hotel in Sugamo exceeded my expectations during my stay. The staff was friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with any queries. The room was clean and comfortable, providing a cozy atmosphere after a day of exploration. The room was nice and clean, made up everyday and good facilities. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very close to the Yamamoto line for easy access the rest of Tokyo and the Shinkansen, and close to Sugamo shopping district to look for those bargains and a pair of red pants! I cannot recommend Hotel SMILE highly enough!! 10/10 A :)

Cheap stay with all you need

All in all I liked this stay because it was fairly economical considering how expensive Japan can be. This hotel allows you to have your own space and gives you the basics you need to survive. It was a little annoying when the reception kept calling me at noon asking if I wanted my room cleaned (at midday) when I had my "don't disturb" sign up, however this was quite thoughtful. I think I would stay here again on balance though - thanks so much!

the pillow and mattress is uncomfortable. i visited several year and don't need to leave the key at front desk. it is a little bit inconvenient that i can just go back to the room easily eating around. and start the trip again.

Extremely clean and friendly staff. Great job cleaning the room everyday with bath robes, bottled water, and clean towels and slippers. It was easy to find and right by the train that takes you all over tokyo. The area has a great restaurants and convenient stores and seiyu (essentially walmart) is right down the street and open 24/7 and has everything you will need. Stayed with my wife and 1 year and was big enough for us all to share a bed. Looking for a great stay absolutely consider smile sugamo.

I stayed at this hotel for around 27 nights. I cannot fault it. The location is great - One minute walk to Sugamo station. It is close to a supermarket and lots of dining options both Japanese and western. The hotel staff were amazing. So friendly and always greeted me with a smile. There is a coin laundry and vending machines inside. The size is normal Japanese hotel room size. It also has a little nook where you can store clothes/small suitcase upright. I will definitely stay here again.

the location is the best for my satisfaction as it is easy access to train station and in the middle of many shopping and food locations in Tokyo like Shijuku, Harajuku, Shibuya, Ueno etc. What I didnt like about the hotel is size of the room and staff English comunicative skill. However, it is comfort enough to stay and fair to communicate.

I have stayed at this hotel before and returned even though the price has gone through the roof for some strange reason. The water that guests used to receive daily from the maid was now locked in a machine for which guests were offered tokens and humiliated into going to reception to get water from a vending machine. The water bottles are now half the size! People in rooms on the top floor smoked constantly and no staff did a thing about it. When I placed my luggage with staff on the last day I was the only guest to be asked how long I intended to leave it there for. Smile hotel is pretty good but prices are rising due to greed brought on by rampant tourism so I feel this may be my last trip but never say never.

Convenient location and liked that they assigned a room that met my request. Laundry facilities on the 8th floor though wasn’t too impressed with the washing machine. Service provided was simple and inventory of room supplies were limited - extra amenities had to be self collected at the counter and staff faced some difficulty in providing 4 additional clothes hangers as there were only 2 put aside in their inventory.
