"This was one of the most incredible experiences we had in Japan. The staff and service level are extraordinary. The 8 or 10 course meals at dinner and breakfast were an unbelievable experience. We traveled with young kids with varying degrees of adventurous eating and the staff was able to prepare dishes that were more western (mini sausages, fries, sunny side eggs). "I love the Tanbo no Yu! I can tell that its being fixed up more everytime I come here! This time, really enjoyed the pure stream bath it was very warm and a comfortable place to chat with my husband. The food was delicious and healthy with many flavors and unlimited hokuriku rice! "A beautiful place and a real honour to stay here as a westerner. Robes and amenities were provided and the baths were excellent including an outdoor area. Very helpful and friendly staff made us feel welcomed. There was even a mini stamp rally around the building which was great for us and our teen child to explore. The building interior was like a maze with beautiful objects and resting places all around and overlooking the garden."

"Our room was spacious and very clean. The private onsen was large and very comfortable, looking out over the river but completely private. We had the kaiseki dinner each night which was elaborate and delicious. The town of Yamanaka is very pretty with fun row of shops specialising in lacquer wear and pottery, some cafes, the usual restaurants and a big public men's and women's bath, along with a beautiful walk in the gorge along the river. All of this is within 5-15 minutes walk of the hotel....
