This ryokan is very dated and in dire need of a refresh. The facilities are not what you would expect from a top end facility in a spa town. The public bath (men’s) felt decades old with soap/salt staining and old fittings. The private baths were a good facility/idea.
Most corridors apart from the main lobby area had an unpleasant smell (musty, mouldy). Our room also faintly had this whiff.
The staff are great - polite and efficient. Breakfast was good.
The free snacks, sale, ice cream buffets were a good idea but don’t expect them to be top quality.
The shuttle was handy. And the ryokan is well situated, a short walk away from charming Yamanaka town.
Unfortunately I could not recommend this as a place until it has had a make-over.
Helpful staff, a lovely room, excellent food and beautiful surroundings made our stay a highlight of our visit to Japan. Highly recommended for people who enjoy stays in quieter villages. We will return.
Enjoyed our private onsen time and having 3 options of outdoor hot springs. Loved our large room with the view of the stream, greenery and the birds singing. We were also happy with the Yukata options at the hotel. Ice cream bar was delicious. Japanese breakfast buffet was impressive! This was the best Kagaonsen experience for me and my friends.
Had a nice stay with my family here. The service was amazing - we got lots of support on various things on our trip, which we really appreciated since we didn't speak Japanese otherwise. We enjoyed the quiet and romantic atmosphere and the meals were good quality.
