Conche Luxury Retreat

"I cannot rave enough about this hotel. It was an absolute dream. The property is just stunning. The room, built into limestone caves, was spacious and cool despite the 95 degree Italian summer heat. The bathroom was just beautiful (and great water pressure), the breakfast in the morning was exquisite with enough food to feed a family of 4 (it was only my boyfriend and I). They gave us take away boxes for whatever we didn’t finish. One of the most appreciated things was how effortless it was to communicate with the property before and during my stay. Immediate answers from the hotel staff on both Expedia and on WhatsApp. So kind, courteous and eager to help. Parking was fairly priced and conveniently located with a 15 euro taxi that brings you right to the hotel entrance (worth it considering large luggage and cobblestone streets). Some might say I have expensive taste when it comes to hotels/vacations and I can honestly say that everything about this stay felt truly upscale but came at a very reasonable price point. We only stayed one night and wished we stayed longer - would recommend a million times!!! We were spoiled by this hotel and the breathtaking town of Matera in general. It was our favorite part of our 9 day Italy trip. Will 100% return."

"If you're debating whether to visit Matera as a day trip or stay overnight, this hotel alone is reason enough to stay. We loved every moment and would return in a heartbeat. Sextantio Le Grotte Della Civita in Matera was one of the most unique and unforgettable hotels we've ever stayed in. The property is a beautifully restored series of caves that blend old-world charm with just the right amount of modern comfort, making you feel like you've stepped back in time while still having everything you need. The staff went above and beyond throughout our stay.. from arranging pickup at the parking garage to carrying our luggage to our room, to being incredibly communicative before and during our visit. Dinner and breakfast at the on-site restaurant were both stunning, and after five trips to Italy, we can honestly say the breakfast spread and setting here might be the best we've ever had in the country. - Matt & Monique"

"The view from the door entrance was outstanding probably the best part of this hotel. Breakfast was also great with good and plenty to choose from. Didn't know the spa was separately charged so cannot say it was a great feature. Wifi could be better. We walked down to the hotel but suggest to ask for the shuttle which was very nice."

"Gattini bills itself as a 5 star hotel. My partner and I would not normally pay the extra amount that that 5th star seems to require, but we were desperate to have a refuge from the August heat in Matera at the end of the day … and staying at Gattini was a great decision. It really is quite wonderful and didn’t seem so expensive once we experienced all the good things that Gattini offered. The breakfast was the best we had in 51 days of travel in Spain Portugal and then Italy. Our thanks to the great staff for a great experience in Matera."

"The EuroStars hotel in Matera is a terrific place to stay. It is a very nice property: very clean, that is quite modern, with spacious rooms, and very well located. An advantage to staying here is that there is a parking lot in the back of the property, where you can easily unload your luggage and park the car for your entire stay in Matera, as you will be able to access all important sites in Matera by walking to them. Additionally, there are plenty of restaurants and shops close to the hotel. Furthermore, the hotel staff is terrific. The young lady at the reception desk, who spoke perfect English, in addition to fluent Spanish as well as her native Italian language, was very attentive and provided us with a useful map of Matera and also traced for us the walking route starting from the hotel to all of the sites that we wanted to visit. Although we only had one full day in Matera, I highly recommend to spend two days in Matera to truly enjoy it on a more leisurely pace - as Matera along with Lecce and the old town in Bari are the most interesting locales in southern Italy. (We spent 3 full weeks in touring southern Italy by car.) I also highly recommend this hotel. You will be delighted regarding your stay at this lovely hotel."
