The property is really beautiful and authentic with cave stay . It was an unforgettable experience for us on our anniversary day - they provided us with local wine, and special arrangement in the room with a fruit basket . We absolutely loved everything about the property like rooms with candles, sharing history about the hotel, the location is very central, restaurant in a cave setup was so stunning . We loved the cocktails, light bits there and not to forget a lavish breakfast spread was amazing !! Thank you to the staff for such a nice customer service .

This is more than a hotel, it is an experience. The concept of cave dwelling is preserved while indulging the guest in the sensual experiences of light, taste, and textures in understated luxury. Very unusual, and cannot be copied.

A special experience!

This is an INCREDIBLE hotel...from the initial communication, arranging our ground transportation, being met by Jennifer and given a history of Matera to the stunningly beautiful cave we slept in, this was a perfect place. The breakfast was beautiful and delicious. The setting of Matera is stunning. My only regret is that we only had one night there. I am already trying to plan a return trip.

I wish that I could give 10 stars to Sextantio! The property is stunning, the town is wonderful, the views are breathtaking, and the staff is incredible. If you are visiting Italy, Matera is a must. It is a completely unique ancient city with a history that shows the adaptability of human kind. Take part by staying at Sextantio.

Unique Hotel

It is a very special hotel. Very unique you will never stay in such a place with so much history and so well kept. If you’re a bit of a claustrophobic, I would suggest you to take a Palazzo room rather than a cave room.

The most incredible, unique experience

We stayed in Le Grotte della Civita #8 It was incredible! It truly is a cultural, restoration project. The caves are cozy, well lit, candles, soaking tub (I miss). Their afternoon Aperitivo is lovely. The breakfast is phenomenal. The staff goes above & beyond to assist you. Definitely recommend parking at their recommended parking area (they will come & collect you & your luggage). Thank you Sara, Paolo, Brunella Emilia, Pasquale. They will assist you with tours, actives as well

This property deserves a big thumbs up. Cave rooms were very well designed with a lot of attention to detail (lights, candles, custom shower gels). Breakfast was one of the best I had recently with a lot of local cheese and fruits instead of banal buffet items. Ricotta was simply amazing. Staff was polite and helpful. I would definitely stay again. The only recommendation I would give is that since each room is unique I would put each room and its images separately instead of room category.

An incredible experience!

We had trouble finding the parking garage! One phone call and Jennifer got us there step by step. Very helpful to say the least. We were given a warm greeting upon arrival. The staff were all friendly and pleasant to talk with. Our room was very clean and inviting. There were beautiful candles lit in the bedroom and bathroom. A table was set up with fresh fruit and a pitcher of water. Elegant napkins and tableware were provided. Our two day stay was really wonderful.

This is one of the coolest places I’ve ever stayed. If you have difficulty with stairs, you may want to look elsewhere, but if no mobility issues, you must stay here! It’s incredible!
