"The room was comfortable and quiet. Staff were welcoming and the breakfast was great. We ate at the pub on a couple of evenings. The food was excellent. Would highly recommend. "
"Beautiful property, lovely gardens.
Breakfast was amazing - great mushrooms!
Bed was huge and comfortable.
Staff were fab - very helpful.
Only downside is no door between the bathroom and bedroom - so very little privacy. "
"Set in lovely countryside views, owners & staff all veey friendly & helpful, fabulous choice of breakfasts, meals available during evening also with a varied menu including gluten free. No hesitation in recommending The Royal Oak for any length of stay, wish we could have stayed for longer!!!!"

While Pity Me may not have many sights to explore, venturing just a little farther will lead you to top things to see and do like Gala Theatre Durham and Adventure Valley.
Great for a couple of nights. The cathedral and castle are well worth a visit. Great views of Durham and surrounding area if you want to climb the 325 steps. Be aware that for the castle, you must book a tour beforehand. Tour very good anyway.

Durham is a great city to visit. Fantastic cathedral, very good shopping (including the indoor market), very good restaurants/cafes/pubs, very nice riverside walks. Excellent transport links - from both bus and railway station.

Beautiful city, shame about a large number of rowdy (drunk, drugs) locals in the centre. No sign of any police to sort them out / move them along. Didn't feel very safe.

"Booked late, but room was ready and despite it being in the middle of meal service check in was quick, efficient and friendly. I'd already eaten but the food looked very good too. Room was small and comfortable. Good nights sleep and bathroom was clean. "
"Very nice property. sorrounded by nice golf courses and conveniently located near the city center. The bar and steak house are worth a try. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The staff is beyond friendly and attentive."
