Bangkok City Centre Guide

About Bangkok City Centre

Bangkok is one of Asia’s most enticing cities. Its busiest and most visited district is undoubtedly Bangkok City Centre. The centre of the Thai capital is considered to be around the Ratchaprasong and Siam Square area, as this is the financial, commercial and entertainment heart. Plenty of attractions make this a great spot for tourists, and efficient transportation makes it easy to get into and out of Bangkok City Centre. Also, a wide selection of accommodation options can be found.

Don’t Miss

The city’s busy centre is home to an excellent array of attractions, from parks to temples to children’s sites.

Towards the Silom area, downtown Bangkok features one of Thailand’s best known green spaces, Lumpini Park. Children are able to use several large playgrounds inside this park, not to mention a few kilometres of cycling tracks, pedal boats upon a pristine lake and even view populations of turtles. The park’s leafy atmosphere also makes it ideal for a family picnic.

The city centre is home to several intriguing museums. Jim Thompson’s House is a former teakwood mansion that has been transformed into a local museum. This museum showcases the life of Jim Thompson, and the birth of Thailand’s amazing silk industry. Another popular museum is Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, and the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is well worth exploring too.

While in downtown Bangkok, it is recommended that visitors take some time to view the city from one of the tall skyscrapers. The former World Trade Centre, which sits next to Central World, offers great views, and Baiyoke Tower One and Two also provide unbeatable photo opportunities.

Restaurants and Bars

There is an endless range of cuisines on offer within Bangkok City Centre. The major malls, including Central World and Siam Paragon, feature some exquisite restaurants, not to mention various fast-food restaurants. The hotels in the district are excellent spots for dining, though guests should expect higher prices here. For cheaper dining options, head into Pratunam, where well-established street food awaits. There are several clubs located in the neighbourhood’s hotels. Some of Bangkok’s best night spots, such as Silom and Nana, are just one BTS stop away.

Shopping

Shopping is part of Bangkok City Centre’s lively culture. There are numerous department stores located inside this district. Siam Paragon, Central World, Siam Centre and MBK are among the largest shopping malls in the district. Cheaper items can be found in Pratunam’s Platinum Mall, and the local market place.
