Villa Kerylos

Villa Kerylos
Built in the early 20th century, this estate is known for its spectacular Greek-style architecture, stunning rooms and beautiful interior artwork.

Tour the Villa Kérylos and discover a number of remarkable rooms, including the banquet hall, the library, the Andron and the thermal baths. Find a breathtaking panoramic view of the sea and Riviera from the eastern façade. Admire frescoes symbolizing peace and war in the entrance hall, also known as the Thyrôreion.

Discover the Andron, the most opulent room in the villa, with walls covered in fine Italian marble. Admire the decorated mosaic on the floor and the Egyptian-style wooden throne between the windows.

Notice the Carrera tiger marble in the thermal baths in the Balaneion. This room is reminiscent of thermal baths in Ancient Greece. See the mosaic showing marine animals and seaweed on the base of the octagonal bath. Renowned Italian architect, Emmanuel Pontremoli, designed the estate. He shared a passion for Ancient Greece with the owner Théodore Reinach, a French archaeologist.

Wander through the garden and find a striking view of the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula. The garden includes a number of typically Greek plants, with vines, olive trees and pomegranate trees. The southern façade is used for orientation and access to the main rooms. See the pergola near the eastern façade. Notice the pillars decorated with a fine Greek fret pattern.

Explore the library, one of the most impressive rooms in the villa. The library was inspired by another library discovered in Herculaneum in the mid-18th century. Notice the antique furniture, oak cabinets and the stunning mosaic of Prometheus and Hera.

Villa Kérylos is about 6 miles (10 kilometers) from Nice and Monaco. The estate is free to enter for children under the age of 7 and reduced rates are offered for visitors under the age of 18. The villa is open year-round however, check the official website as opening times depend on the season.

The Villa Kérylos was built with a passion for Greece and is a great way to learn about Greek-style architecture and design on the French Riviera.
