"The room was pretty cold on arrival, but soon worked out how to get the heating on.Staff were very helpful and managed to sort out my booking, that Expedia failed to notify the hotel, so they were not expecting me.The room was aa bit outdated,and not very soundproof, the 7 lane bypass was very noisy during the night,even with the window closed."

We stayed in the James Herriot room and it’s the little details such as a piece of cake a glass of port and the accessories were in keeping with the great man himself all very well thought out. We dined that evening and we were not disappointed the food was exceptional and well executed. A warm and welcoming experience by staff who were so friendly!"

Just a few minor points to note & could be improved - bedroom window could not be opened to let in fresh air & badly needed dusting. Not enough electrical sockets & could have been better positioned close to mirror for make up, hair etc. Other than that, it was a beautiful atmospheric and classy hotel and full of character. "

"We stayed in cottage 3 only one night unfortunately as I could look at that view from our window forever. The cottage was spotless and lovely and warm and there was everything you could need for a longer stay . The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. "Very comfy big bed, shower and taps took ages to get hot, but eventually did. Lots of tea and coffee options in room together with a fridge with wine and snacks if required. Breakfast was excellent. Staff very friendly. Bit strange going in and out at back of the building, but happy to recommend as somewhere central to stay."
