The East Lancs Railway, north of Manchester, had the honour of being the first public run of the newly restored Flying Scotsman, the first locomotive to exceed 100 mph nearly 100 years ago. Nuttall Park Ramsbottom. Nuttall Park opened in 1928 and is just 600 metres from the centre of Ramsbottom. In January 2007 the park was badly flooded after the nearby river Irwell burst its banks. 314860 314866 The monument on top of the hill is 444207 Nuttall Park was a piece of land donated to the people of Ramsbottom by Colonel T E Porritt in 1928 and is at present being leased to Woodbank Juniors football club from nearby Bury. The landlord of the nearby Masons Arms public house was sent a bill in July 2008 amounting to £348.34 for unauthorised use of these facilities because some of his customers played a game of football in the park. http://www.rossendaleonline.co.uk/showthread.php?t=3716
