The room was spotless, the staff were so friendly and incredibly helpful. We were late for check in so they kindly laid out our futon for us so we could go straight to bed. Perfect service, thank you!
This is the second time we have stayed here. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The indoor and outdoor onsen is incredible. The ocean views from the rooms are spectacular. Everyday there is a new sample treat to try.
Perfect location for surfers
Pros: beautiful Oceanside view, walk to beach, nice robes in room for guests, great pool, decent breakfast, friendly check in staff, lots of parking, a few onsite stores
Cons: our room was very dated, old carpet and dated bathroom fixtures. Saw some other rooms had updates

The hot springs were really good.
The hotel itself seemed a little dated.
The restaurant was only available if you reserved in advance. The other restaurant/bar was closed.
The room is larger than typical Japanese hotels. Convenience store is located just front of the entrance. The property has nice & big hot spring.
The free bus services are available from / to Izukyu Shimoda station. They can also stop at on the way between the places. The ocean View from the hotel room is just amazing.
My spouse and I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Izukyu! I'm already planning to come back later in the summer. My Japanese is limited so we really appreciated the staff doing their best to explain policies in English. We stayed in a Japanese style room, it was huge and had everything we needed and more - and the view of the ocean was fantastic! We also took advantage of the private onsen, highly recommend. Buffet breakfast had a ton of great options, and we appreciated how large the dining room was. There is a 7/11 next door and the beautiful beach is right across the street! I highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in this area!
The hotel was fine and reasonably priced. Gift shop was of decent size, the staff friendly, the grounds decently kept, and we were able to experience the many aspects of Shirahama on foot. One thing of note was the choice the Izukyu hotel made not to enforce the ancient and archaic tattoo policy surrounding pool use that so many hotels in Japan still retain to this day. Izukyu allowed myself, a foreigner, and even Japanese with tattoos in the pool and pool area, showing their dedication to Articles 11, 14, 19, 21, and 98 of the Japanese Constitution, when so many other hotels choose not to evolve to fit modern times. Tattoos or not, customers mean money, and Hotel Izukyu has the wisdom to recognize this, and not to discriminate against them for their personal choices or dampen their experience while visiting their establishment. Thanks for setting an example. Would go again.
