The mansion was once owned by Sarah Winchester, the widow of firearms William Wirt Winchester. The Queen Ann Style Victorian mansion is renowned for it's size, it's architecual curiosities and it's lack of any master building plan. Under her day-to-day guidance, it's "from-the-grounds-up" construction proceeded, by some accounts, non-stop 24/7 for 38 years until her death in 1922 at which time construction ceased.

Winchester Mystery House now has two different tours. I recommend the ‘Explore More’ tour if you’ve already experienced the main tour. They take you into places the regular tour doesn’t go.

The campus is great especially behind the library where you can find this old constructions covered in ivy and if the sky will cooperate that day you might get amazing pictures.
