"Baffled by the good reviews. This place runs on rules upon rules upon regulations, and the photos are doing heroic work—instead of an idyllic hillside retreat, you get a tired, austere little fiefdom that makes a Holiday Inn look like the Ritz. Worst hotel of my two-week Italy trip (my partner agreed, enthusiastically). In fairness, the view is lovely and the area is peaceful—the hotel just works tirelessly to undo that from the inside.
We arrived after 8 hours of travel to find the restaurant...

"Villa Magia is a small 13 room property that is a gem. From the breakfast to the gardens to the staff are all amazing. I would come back to Positano just based on my experience at this hotel. One more thing the views are the best in Positano."

"We had an awesome stay at this hotel. The cleaning staff were very attentive, and provided a wonderful service. Breakfast was great every day and the wait staff in the restaurant in the evening were fantastic. The two guys that ran the pool bar were awesome as well. Massages were great and we used the sauna and indoor thermal pool as well. We were sad to leave when we did but most certainly will be back. Ciao ciao."

"The views from the hotel of the Gulf of Naples were incredible. Could have sat on the balcony for days and looked out at them. The breakfast was also a highlight - the a'la carte menu was much appreciated, and dishes came out cooked as requested.
We had a sea view from our room, and it did not disappoint. However, the room was clearly under the carpark or potentially the road, and in the evenings the noise from the road / cars was very evident. I guess this is the compromise for effectively...

"For the price, I expected more. The rooms are very outdated, the elevator is extremely small, and the pool is tiny and freezing cold, which was disappointing. On the positive side, the breakfast was good, the air conditioning worked great, and the staff was absolutely wonderful and made our stay much more enjoyable. Overall, there are definitely pros and cons. If modern accommodations are important to you, this may not be the best value, but the friendly service and good breakfast are definite...

"Pros: The hotel has a nice sea view and easy access to a swim area on the beach. It’s a short walk if you want to take a ferry to Capri or any of the Amalfi coast towns and not a far walk from the train station.
Cons: The room came with a massive Jacuzzi tub that we wouldn’t use. The shower was extremely small due to the massive tub. Also, the iron was difficult to use as they have it attached to ironing board so you have less than a foot of cord to work with. Breakfast would’ve been better if...

"Rooms are cleaned and attended to, however, due to poor ventilation there is evidence of black mold in the washroom.
Outdoor patio area, not tidy or appealing, glassware left from other guests, several bulbs burnt out on the patio, not attended to as to make it an area a guest would want to visit or hang out at.
Front staff, not very knowledgeable of attractions or events to guide a tourist.
Breakfast was well stocked and varied.
Natural on this place as it does only what is needed...minimum...

"Clean room, helpful staff but very limited range of food in breakfast and dinner plus the main meals were tasteless. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere and we had to spend 40 euros everyday on taxi to go to and from train station - not a good location plus the experience was of a very basic hotel even though we paid the price for a luxury hotel."
