My daughter’s wedding was in Newport this weekend and we had a large hotel block and hosted a post wedding brunch at NHI. We had many issues. I would definitely not recommend this property for anyone looking for service. While the staff was generally pleasant, they were mostly unhelpful. Our room was on the ground floor by the pool which was under renovation. All weekend we heard equipment moving, drilling and yelling. We have stayed here in the past and the hotel is loud in general. The room was ok, although we had holes in our sheets and the beds aren’t particularly comfortable. We also had a large suite for my daughter. There was a leak in the room so while all the girls were getting ready for the wedding there was a bucket with dripping water right in the middle of the hallway. Also, we ordered room service and no one came to clean the room. We had to call numerous times to get someone to clean. There were many other issues but the final and most upsetting was on check out day. The brunch we hosted was from 10:00 am- Noon. We requested a late check out until 12:30 so we could greet our guests and then have time to run back to the room and pack up and get our bags. The front desk would lot accommodate us and they did not care to even listen to us. The final straw was when my daughter’s car wouldn’t start and she was waiting for AAA while her baby was sleeping in the room. She needed 30 minutes to additional to check out and they made her wake the baby.

Overall the resort was very nice and my family had a nice time. The room was not as clean as it could be in the nooks and cracks and a little tight. The cable also kept going in/out. The shuttle service to town was a perk and the heated pool was very nice. We were disappointed with the spa, they were obviously short staffed and it was very basic for the price. The indoor pool was also closed. Aside from these few things, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back. If you are contemplating staying in town or Goat Island, i definitely recommend Goat Island to give you a resort feel away from the chaos when you have had enough. Not to mention the views of the bay are amazing.

The young lady at the front desk was very unhelpful and did nothing. Had coffee in the morning in the room and garbage was still on the table when we got back in the afternoon. This property is in a great location, especially if you are a walker. Close to everything you would want to do and see. The on site amenities just add to the overall experience of excellence. You can stay at the resort or venture out. It's your call. Very friendly staff always ready to answer any question. Cannot say enough positive things about this resort, except to see it for yourself.

Our shower was not working the first night so that was highly frustrating and staff did not really care. Our room would not be made until 6pm or later. We would come back from the pool or daily activities and still our room was not clean beds made etc and it was past 6pm.

The outdoor pool was great. We also used the small game room however wish there were some more toy/games for the kids. Most were missing parts and all over the shelves. Pinball machine and basketball were good entertainment. Overall food and drinks were great and staff was friendly. We stayed two night and loved the location and ability to either use the water taxi or shuttle for down town. Family friendly with kids club.

Here’s a polished, balanced version that is honest but still fair to the hotel: Overall, I had a pleasant stay, but I felt the room was quite expensive for what was offered. The room was not always serviced as expected, and on two occasions the room was not cleaned at all. This was disappointing, particularly given the price of the stay. The restaurant could also offer a better selection of food for guests looking for something beyond hamburgers, fried food, and more casual options. That said, the brunch was quite good and offered a much better variety. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and the service was generally pleasant. The hotel’s location and setting are excellent, especially the beautiful pool overlooking the ocean. The overall atmosphere and surroundings are definitely among the hotel’s strongest features. With more consistent housekeeping and an improved restaurant menu, I think the overall experience would better justify the price. If you want, I can also make it  more critical and direct, or  more diplomatic and suitable for a 4-star review.

There was one check-in person (a man) who tried to give us a smaller room of lesser value when we complained about the parking lot view room we were given. Quite rude for them to think we were foolish enough to believe him. This was the only bad experience for the trip. Hope the manager speaks to him about treating guests better.

Overall I thought the hotel was a great place to stay for our mother/daughter trip. It has a shuttle to make it easy to get to the main downtown area of Newport. Also a short walk if you wanted a little exercise. The spa was great and we did the getaway package which personally I thought was great services for great value. I had John for massage and Arlene for body scrub and facial and they were both fantastic! Would highly recommend. The only area I would say could use improvement is the cleaning up around the pool area. We went there day one and when choosing a seat there were so many tables left with old food and I noticed it just sat out a while attracting some seagulls and other birds. I just felt like that staff was a little lackluster. The spa, front desk, parking attendants were all on top of it though! Rooms were clean and restocked appropriately. Not to be nit picky but my only complaint there would be it would be nice to have a DND sign (our room didn’t have one) and so they kept knocking at our door at 8:00 am. I tried to find someone to get one but I wasn’t successful. All this said, I would go back!!

staff over charged my credit card. I booked and paid the room through Expedia $624.11 for one night. I provided the staff my credit card for their required deposit. We stayed only one night that we booked from Expedia, but they charged us $522.70 on top of what we already paid on Expedia. Room experience: we paid $624.11 for 4 people in one room, the room is so small, and it enough for two people. The view is beautiful, but it is not worthy to spend $624.11 and we did not have enough to move around the room. Not recommended this place unless you are super rich and needed to spend your money.

Beautiful Property, But Service Fell Short We really enjoyed many aspects of Newport Harbor Island Resort. The grounds are beautiful, the amenities are excellent, and the location is fantastic. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the property. We arrived around 2 p.m., understanding that check-in was at 4. We were told our room was “not quite ready” and encouraged to enjoy the resort. When we returned at 4, we were told it wouldn’t be ready until closer to 5. We explained that we had a 6 p.m. dinner reservation, but our concern was met with indifference. We finally received our room around 5, leaving us unable to get ready in time and causing us to miss our reservation. A few days later, we returned to our room around 11 a.m. and it had not been serviced, leaving us without fresh towels. Again, the front desk was polite but seemed unconcerned, and the room wasn’t serviced until several hours later. After our stay, we emailed the resort directly about these issues. Nine days later, we have received no acknowledgment or response. We genuinely liked the resort and wanted to leave feeling more positive. At this price point, problems can happen, but how they’re handled matters. Unfortunately, repeated indifference significantly affected an otherwise enjoyable stay.

We loved all the lobby space-lots of room for our group to gather. There were low of breakfast items to choose from on the menu. We didn’t like the crowds at the pool, especially when one of the pool staff said some people at the pool were “day guests.” Given the cost of our stay, we don’t think “day guests” should be taking away our pool space and deck chairs!
