Our check-in was uninspiring; the booking could not be found. The girl helping us looked into it and realised my surname was incorrect, but instead of checking us in (as she had retrieved the booking), she directed us to re-enter the surname again into the iPad. We did not feel like valued clients, it felt very transactional.
The room had an iPad in it too, to control the lights and blinds - it was confusing and a lot of effort to use.
The room was also freezing cold and the sink was blocked and draining very slowly.
We went down to the bar to have a drink and were not acknowledged by either the bar man or the other staff member who was sitting up the bar, on a bar stool, filling in paper work. A little 'hello, I'll be with you in minute' , wouldn't have gone amiss.
Finally, the rooms do not have irons. Instead, there is a tiny, stuffy, dark room called Iron Heaven, which should really be called Iron Hell as it was not only incredibly warm but also so badly lit that I could not see whether or not the creases were being ironed out.
I do not feel that Citizen M is the right kind of hotel if you want to feel like a valued customer, if you like to have the receptionist speak with you about the hotel and if you can't stand overly-loud music in the lobby.
If, on the other hand, you want a transactional kind of fast-food type stay, then Citizen M is the place for you.
