What We Liked
The location is a clear strength. Don Quijote is right across the street, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby for every budget and taste. Most importantly, Matsumoto Castle is within walking distance — a big plus if sightseeing is on your agenda. The room, while compact, was well laid out and did not feel cramped despite fitting two adults and a child in a double room with two beds. A nice touch was the amenity pickup system at reception, where guests can collect toiletries such as facial wash and facial cleanser as needed — practical and thoughtful. Breakfast offered a decent variety of basic options, a convenient way to start the day before heading out to explore.
What We Didn't Like
Parking is minimal, which could be an inconvenience if you are traveling by car. Worth planning ahead if that applies to your trip.
Overall
Toyoko Inn Matsumoto Ekimae Honmachi punches above its weight for the price. It is a clean, well-located, and practical stay for those using Matsumoto as a base for visiting the castle, or heading further out to Azumino or Kamikochi."
