"While this stay lacks in the polished stays of a fancy resort it makes up ten-fold in charm and personality. This was the coziest most wonderful stay we've had on our trip yet and we'll definitely be back. "This was a no frills, older hotel with nothing around but it was well maintained and clean and the staff was very friendly & helpful and spoke some English. There is a toilet & sink in the room but no tub or shower--you need to go downstairs for the shower and onsen but it's for your own private use (reserve your time to use at the front desk). The bus stop is in front of the hotel but only runs twice every hour. Within a 13-minute walk is the ropeway at Ubako which will take you down to Lake Ashinoko area where you can catch the pirate ship. Having the Hakone Freepass is highly recommended as you can use it many times on the ropeway and pirate ship as well as the Tozan buses. It also gives you discounts at various tourist attractions."
