About Itaewon

Itaewon is commonly referred to as Seoul’s international district. It is where many Western expatriates reside, which is why this district is home to some of the best nightlife and restaurants in the South Korean capital. The area is also close to numerous attractions. Staying in one of Itaewon’s hotels is recommended when enjoying a holiday in Seoul.

Don’t Miss

Not far from the heart of Itaewon is the National Museum of Korea. It is the largest museum in the country, and one of the most important as it houses a number of very important cultural treasures, including ancient Buddhist sculptures and priceless traditional Korean art pieces. It is less than two kilometres from Yongsan Station, so is within easy reach of Itaewon.

The Samsung Museum of Art is another cultural attraction that is well worth visiting for a few hours. Both Korean and internationally-renowned artists, such as Rem Koolhaas and Jean Nouvel have artwork residing within this museum. English-speaking visitors are recommended to see the museum on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, as this is when the English-speaking guides are available.

Restaurants and Bars

Itaewon is said to be the best dining district in Seoul. This is mostly thanks to the large population of foreigners living in this area. Everything from Indian curries through to American steakhouses and fattening fast-food restaurants is found here. Tourists should head to the group of restaurants behind the Hilton Hotel for excellent Western dishes. Itaewon is also a great place to congregate with friends after the sun goes down as dozens of bars and clubs operate in the district. Visitors will see plenty of these night-time establishments along both the main road and down the side streets.

Shopping

The main street in the district is where visitors can find the best shopping spots. There are plenty of fashion stores situated along the road, offering the best in both local and international clothing brands. Leather products, handbags, shoes, and even furniture are available in this district.
