Arguably Seoul’s most important district, Gangnam is the heart of the South Korean capital. It is located in the southern part of the city, and includes affluent neighbourhoods, financial skyscrapers, energetic nightclubs and high-end shopping. It is a relatively large district. Of course, many beautiful hotels are also situated inside Gangnam as it is one of South Korea’s most visited areas.

The Bongeun Temple is South Korea’s most important Buddhist landmark, and one of the most visited attractions in the capital. Even though it welcomes tourists each day, the temple remains relatively peaceful and quiet, and boasts some very impressive structures that are among Seoul’s oldest.

In the middle of the hustle and bustle of Gangnam is the Yangjae’s Citizens’ Forest. It is situated along Gangnam Street, and contains more than 100,000 trees, making it an extremely green space. The streams flowing through the park add a lovely touch. The Yangjae’s Citizens’ Forest is perfect for an afternoon stroll, morning jog or simply taking time out from Gangnam’s fast-paced atmosphere.

Restaurants here are mostly high-end establishments, although the modern shopping malls inside the district do have a large range of dining options. Throughout Gangnam, Western food is in abundance, along with a variety of Asian cuisines. It is a very modern area that caters for the mostly Western-educated residents and visitors. Gangnam is home to Apgujeong, which hosts an up-market club and bar scene along with various restaurants and cafés. Gangnam Station is another popular nightclub area to visit.

The Apgujeong area of Gangnam is the most popular shopping district in Seoul. Often likened to Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive, this affluent shopping strip is home to all the world-renowned fashion brands. There are several department stores located inside Gangnam too, including Hyundai Department Store and the upscale Galleria. Visitors should expect the clothing and accessories in these places to be highly priced.
