Drakesbad Guest Ranch
8/10 Good
"On national park land but not near the main entrance if that is what you are looking for. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room did not have a shower which we did not realize until check in. Too late to change when we got there. Docked one star for lacking that info when we booked. As well as not being close to the actual main entrance to the park which was about 1.5 hours away from the guest ranch. On the plus side the hikes from our stay had very few people on the trail. The forest around the guest ranch burned in 2021 causing massive damage to the area so the hikes had little shade and the trees were very sad to see. My husband loved this place. I probably wouldn’t book it again unless I just wanted to be I. The middle of nowhere. Dinner was good. We used the sack lunches on our hikes (also included with the stay). Breakfast was a usual hotel style breakfast. They also serve beer and wine for an additional fee."
The Black Forest Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"Don't judge by the exterior. Room was excellent. I think we had a handicapped accessible room but it was very roomy with king bed. Huge shower with instant hot water and great water pressure. TV, good a/c, Keurig coffee maker, small refrigerator with little freezer. Shampoo, conditioner etc. Comfortable bed. Close to Lassen Volcanic National Park. The only downside: we were in room 1 by the highway. Need better blackout curtains. Some road noise, but not terrible."
