Copenhagen City Centre Travel Guide

Copenhagen

A waterfront with buildings, boats, and a moon in the sky.
A harbor with colorful buildings and several sailboats docked.
A narrow street lined with colorful shops and a large ice cream cone sign.
A wooden dock with green chairs and a palm tree by the water.
A serene lake with lily pads, surrounded by lush greenery and a historic building with domed towers in the background.

In central Copenhagen, you can see a huge range of attractions, go shopping, have extraordinary gastronomic experiences and enjoy Denmark's capital to its fullest.

On a city break to central Copenhagen, you can experience both traditional and historical attractions and also the modern side to Copenhagen, with its world-renowned gastronomy and new experiences. Cobbled streets, impressive buildings, Danish political life, significant historical sites and a bustling city life are just but a few of the things that central Copenhagen has to offer.

Central Copenhagen is the heart of the city. The cobbled streets, alleyways and the green spires on the stunning buildings all serve as proof that this is where it all started. Since around the year 700, this area has had a city-like character, and its location made it ideal for trade.

Enjoy a meal and a cold beer in the world-famous Nyhavn, surrounded by charming houses and sailboats. Take a trip to the Tivoli Gardens Amusement Park or experience both royal palaces: Amalienborg, the royal family's residence, and Rosenborg, where the crown jewels are kept. Make sure to walk up and down the Strøget main street, to climb up Rundetårn (the Round Tower) or to bring a picnic basket to Kongens Have (the King's Garden).

There are so many things to see and do in central Copenhagen, and a good way to get to see a lot of them is to buy a Copenhagen Card. It gives you access to many of the museums and attractions in the area, as well as free train, bus and metro transport.

A great way to travel around central Copenhagen and to experience the city like a true Copenhagener is by bike. Another way to travel during your weekend break to central Copenhagen is to go on a boat ride. You can also use the bus, metro and S-train when travelling to, from and around the centre.

With so many activities to do and so many things to see in central Copenhagen, you certainly won't get bored here. You will also be close to the other neighbourhoods if you'd like to see what else Copenhagen has to offer.
