"staff were very friendly, the location was perfect and felt safe, and we liked the overall style of the hotel. However, the room we stayed in was not as impressive as it looked in the photos and felt quite basic.Considering that this is part of the Marriott group, we were surprised that there were no cotton pads in the bathroom, and slippers were also not available when we asked. These are very simple and basic amenities that we expected to find.Another issue was that there was no telephone in the room. This meant that even for something small, like asking for cotton pads, we would have had to go down four floors to reception. Because of this, we often didn’t bother asking. We also couldn’t notice whether there was an emergency button in the room, which was disappointing from both a practical and safety perspective. The duvet cover was torn, and the end of the duvet was sticking out because the opening was not properly closed. Seeing a torn duvet cover in the morning was disappointing and did not meet the standards we expected.Breakfast was also not great. The croissants and pancakes were not fresh. We arrived late, which was our fault, but the way the food was cleared away very quickly while we were still taking items was not pleasant.Overall, it felt like the hotel was trying to save on basic amenities and staff, which affected the service quality. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this hotel or stay here again."

"A decent sized twin room, nice shower. Not far from city centre and ideal if arriving by train as it's next to the railway station. Disappointed that the swimming pool wasn't open."

"We had a fantastic two night stay at this hotel which had everything we needed from a comfortable bed, clean and well equipped rooms to a breakfast that could not be faulted. This hotel was well located for us with a Toby Carvery next door, with a huge shopping complex approx 5 minutes drive away, with all your well named high street stores M&S, Primark etc. even a Cinema and bowling alley and a varied choice of restaurants. If travelling into York, leave the car at the hotel, an Uber to York Minster cost less than £9 and took all the hassle out of trying to find a place to park and getting us to where we needed to be. All the staff were extremely friendly nothing was too much trouble for any of them. Thank you for such a huge Yorkshire welcome and would not hesitate with recommending this hotel to family and friends and will definitely be returning."

"We had a fantastic stay. The room was immaculate, the finish was perfect and it was very clean. We had a pet friendly room which was lovely and it was a nice surprise to have dog bowls, treats, dog bed and blanket in the room. Breakfast was very nice and we also chose to have dinner in the pub due our stay which was also very nice. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Just a couple of very small things which could make the whole experience a bit better would be plumper pillows and the way in from the car park doesn’t really match up to how amazing the rest of the establishment is.
