Wonderful small boutique airbnb in meticuloisly renovated property within the old central part of Chinon. Maurice is the perfect host and always helpful. Amazing breakfast. Stayed on second ( top) floor room, and did not find stairs difficult.
This was a fantastic stay. Wonderful historical property, renovated and decorated tastefully, very well located, welcoming owner. Great breakfast, with every attention to detail in service and food selection and presentation. Could not ask for more.
This is truly a little gem. An amazing, tastefully restored period building. It is also the owners home and it shows in all the fine details and attention. The building is amazing, spiral staircase, old fashioned bell pull and giant key locks. The rooms tastefully in keeping with the half timbered style whilst still managing to host all modern amenities. The breakfast selection was outstanding and uniquely informal. All fresh local produce....mmmmm.
Best of all was the hospitality of the host Maurice.
Oh yeah, dont forget the location, in the middle of a historic town with beautiful bulidings, restaurants, wine cellars, river, castle.... my words don't do it justice I'm afraid.
We'll be back as soon as possible
The house was utterly charming, nestled on a quiet cobblestone street just a short walk to the castle. The host was friendly and the dining room was beautiful. The freshest of everything for breakfast! Lovely place!
We’ve just spent a week at Hôtel Au Relais Saint Maurice, and it was a real highlight of our holiday. The hotel is a beautiful old house, full of character and history stretching back hundreds of years. Maurice, the owner, is absolutely dedicated to the place and to his guests – nothing is too much trouble, and his care shows in every detail. Breakfast was a real treat each morning, with homemade food and an incredible range of choices, all served in the peaceful courtyard or the amazing dining room. Everything is spotlessly clean, and the whole atmosphere is warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. During a week when temperatures reached the high thirties, the air conditioning in the rooms was a blessing. It’s a hotel run with real heart and pride, and we couldn’t have asked for a better base for our time in Chinon. Highly recommended.
I can’t say enough positives about this property! We stayed in the La Chambre de Marie Janelle. The room had everything you could need: robes, slippers, hairdryer, tea kettle, great AC, soap, even wash clothes. Our room was beautiful and very quiet. Getting to the property can be challenging but well worth the effort. I will say this property is NOT for those with any kind of mobility issues. There is no elevator and our room was on third floor. Our host greeted us with a pleasant smile and carried our suitcases to our room. He explained everything we needed to know and even provided information on where to visit while in Chinon. The area of this property is very walkable and has several restaurants nearby.
The hotel is tastefully furnished with many antiques. Our room, Room of Agnes was on the 4th floor, Maurice, the owner of this property helped us carrying our luggage. The room was larger than expected and fully supplied from cotton swabs to bathrobes, a coffee maker, coffee cups with small cakes, much more than we needed. There were an ottoman and two luggage chairs which I found very useful. My husband an I drove from Mont Saint Michel and stayed there for two nights. Maurice gave us free parking during our stay, so we didn’t have trouble paying at the parking machine. Breakfast was plentiful: coffee, croissants, several cakes, crepes with jams, fruits, boiled eggs, hams, sausages, several fruit juices, cheese, and yogurt. This was much more than we had at previous hotels. I believe Maurice manages very well, cooking, concierging, cleaning. He was a great host.
Accueil charmant et attentionné
Petit déjeuner délicieux avec des petits plats maison
Une décoration de la salle et du salon très cosy avec un style extraordinaire
À ne pas rater absolument !
La struttura e' veramente bella , molto curata in tutti i dettagli . Pulizia ineccepibile e prima colazione superlativa .
Emplacement parfait, excellent accueil, maison incroyable, chambre charmante.
Just stay 3 nights at the Au Relais Saint Maurice. It was wonderful. Maurice is the perfect host and saw to every detail. His 13th C. House is beautifully and tastefully remodeled with all the 21st C. Conveniences (plenty of electrical outlets, WiFi, television with lots of channels, very modern bathroom with heated towel racks). The breakfast was outstanding. Nothing is better than walking to breakfast with them smell of fresh brioche just out of the oven. You enter the breakfast room through a beautiful living room with a fireplace and the breakfast room is incredible. The place settings are very elegant and no detailed is overlooked. Lots of breakfast choices with homemade jams and freshly made crepes. If you are looking for a great place to stay in Chinon. Book the Au Relais Saint Maurice right NOW you won’t regret it. I would definitely stay there again and again and again.
Our trip was made special by Maurice, who provided an unsurpassed level of personal service. We loved him. Maurice went out of his way to attend to our every need. Hotel was charming, outstanding breakfast—including fresh, hot croissants and everything else we could want. Parking was free and convenient. Knowing we had to leave early, Maurice served breakfast before the regular time, then helped us carry our bags to the car. Hurray Maurice!
Maurice is a wonderful, caring host with a great sense of humour.
600 year old house lovingly restored with immaculate rooms and bathrooms, each with their own personalities.
Maurice shines with his historical knowledge of Chinon, his house, and with his superb generous breakfasts. We will never forget our experience there.
Thank you, Maurice!
