"Lovely apartment in a historic building, ideally located just outside the city centre, but within easy walking distance of all places of interest in York. Nice touch of leaving a bottle of bubbly in the fridge - a good sign that the hosts are attentive. The apartment itself is well furnished and equipped, and really does feel like a home from home. Overall, thoroughly recommended."

"Booked for a birthday present. Was nice but we were in the Roman house bit which is a new extension so if you are wanting to stay in the original grand hotel you should probably request as I was surprised to be in a new extension. Also opposite the extension there were significant building works going on and the road could be quite noisy with bikes and car exhausts even on the top floor. Staff were lovely albeit housekeeping were a little slow at getting round to our room and the phone did not...

"Only one criticism I have is about the parking .There are only 2 parking spaces at the B&B this only came to my attention when I had booked and received the welcome email/text .i was lucky while I was staying I managed to get one for the 3 days .Other than its a great place to stay very clean and well maintained ."

"Really great hotel with so much attention to detail. Record players in the room and a huge selection of records is a really nice touch. The Radio was on when we arrived to our room and the Pantry is generous & a really unique touch. Canadian lady on the Bar was knowledgeable & super friendly (Pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the extensive bar menu was priced). Just really really cool & great location."

"The staff at Ascot House were great. The breakfasts are pretty much set with some exceptions if you don't like something, the chef tries to accommodate when it's possible which is a great thing to be able to offer. The owner June does a great job with keeping Ascot House friendly and accessible to all people. We had a lovely time staying here and visiting York."

"This has got to be one of the friendliest hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The hotel staff were so lovely and helpful; they always greeted you with a smile and made you feel so welcome. The hotel is ideally placed to visit York with a pleasant 5-10 minute walk from the main sights and river. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfast delicious. I’d highly recommend this to anyone visiting York and would definitely stay again."

"The hotel is perfectly placed in the centre of York and easy to get to. The staff were lovely and were able to accommodate giving us a lower-level room, which was so helpful (especially when pregnant in a heatwave!). There were lots of options available in the mini bar as well as teas, coffees, etc. The room was very comfortable and clean - we will definitely return next time we come to York."

"We had a very stressful check-in as the receptionist insisted I had made two separate bookings and that one of our rooms was only for one night, the other for two. I had my Expedia email for both rooms both for 2 nights. We asked for quiet rooms so were given room next to the road, overlooking the carpark entrance and the bins! My colleague was given a ground floor room with a window opening onto the street which made her feel uncomfortable. We went to discuss with reception and they...
