"Melrose villas is tucked away off the main road but still within walking distance / short tuk tuk ride away from village. Rooms are simple and it may take a while to find right temperature for the shower. But what really stands out is their great service, simple but freshly made meals and view of Sigiriya Rock in the distance. "

"A touch of paradise! The host and his family gave us the warmest welcome in the world. The room was spacious and spotless. Despite being in the forest, there wasn’t a single ant or mosquito in the room. It had the most comfortable bed and pillows. We had a lovely balcony overlooking lush greenery. Breakfast was served on the balcony every morning at our preferred time, and was undoubtedly the best breakfast I’ve had in any hotel around the world. "We had a wonderful stay at The Hungry Lion! The rooms are very clean and spacious, as are the common areas. The location is perfect: only a short walk to all of the restaurants and shops. Breakfast was incredible, by far the best we’ve had on our trip. The staff were very accommodating and cheerful. We will definitely be back. 10 out of 10 !"

"A fantastic family run Guest House ideally situated for the Rock Fortress, Elephant Safari and Ancient Cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. All the family made us feel at home. Dinesh who runs the place arranged all our trips for us. Rooms are clean and comfortable and set in a tropical jungle like garden. Meals were lovely and plenty of variety. We highly recommend this Guest House and would love to go back one day. "

"The staff are amazing! So friendly, hardworking and kind. The food was delicious and the coffee choice (cappuccino, americano, latte, expresso) were wonderful to have. Perfect location to walk to Lion Rock and Pidurangula. Just a short TukTuk ride to Dambulla. It was so nice to be able to go for a swim and sit around the pool after hiking. We would love to be able to go back some day! "

"Staff was excellent. She made special vegetarian food for me. Lot of greenery. Room is ok not that great. Too many insects because of bushes and trees all around the property. Gieco running on the floor of the room. Had to go to the front desk every time for service. No phone/TV in the room. No light switch above the bed. Had to go to the front door to turn off lights and walk in the dark to the bed. Not convenient at all."
